Young upcoming artist leading by example
Inspired by many artists in Malawi and abroad, Bernard Khondiwa, 18, is trading where many fear venturing into visual art.
Khondiwa, who stays in M’bwerera in Chemussa, Blantyre has the talent to draw someone or something just by looking at it and his work is breathtaking.
“Am inspired by Elson Kambalu who is a very contemporary and versatile man, he is able to move from one medium to another.
“He is a painter, a sculptor, a fashion designer, a conceptual artist and an abstract expressionist, he is someone who is not identified with one form of art style,” said Khondiwa.
According to Khondiwa, he wants to inspire other young people in the area where is staying to have an interest in art through his art work.
“Now a lot of friends are coming here to admire my works and not only young people, even adults that pass by the road are interested in my works.
“As you know my place is just near by the tar mark road that goes to Michiru Nature Centaury, travelers are even admiring my work and I have started having some orders from people,” highlighted Khondiwa.
However, Khondiwa says the challenges has not been inevitable citing the experience of growing up with a single parent in a family of three, he has struggled to make ends meet saying he would be grateful if well-wishers came in to support him in growing his new found work.
Khondiwa said after writing his form four examinations in 2016, he decided to venture into art so that in future he can be like one of the big artists in the country.
