Sata, who had been receiving medical care in London for the past week, died at approximately 2100 hours local time on Tuesday night.

Just two days earlier, he had checked out of the Harley Street Clinic to receive private medical care in a central London hotel room.

The president’s health had been the subject of numerous conflicting reports in the media and contradictory statements by Patriotic Front (PF) government officials for many months.

Recently the president was unable to address the United Nations General Assembly, and was forced to depart Zambia just two days before the the 50th anniversary of independence.

Upon departure from Zambia, his Minister of Defence and Minister of Justice Edgar Lungu was appointed Acting President, though it is not clear who will serve following his death given a constitutional clause on parentage which may nullify Vice President Guy Scott.

Presidential by elections will be held in 90 days.

  9. Comment 94 implies that Sata’s death is age related that is a stupid assumption and disrespectful. Even young people die. May Sata’s soul rest in peace

  16. RIP Mr. Sata. Though your rule has been with ups and down but i respect your against all battles. I will miss you

  17. I pass my condolences to the Zambians. But again politicians must know that it is more demanding to be a president so they must leave this post to young men. Otherwise it is now common to hear of deaths of presidents.

  25. We share Zambia in everthing Lanquages, marridges, farming and even death because it start Zambia and finish with Malawi then the VP will replace. THUS HOW IT GOES BECAUSE HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF.

  26. Finally the curtains hv fallen on king cobra. What a great loss 2 Zambia. It buffles me to have 2 sitting in presidents die b4 their end of term. Zambia shine ur eyes. Condolences to his family and the country. MISRIP

  27. @ maimai…………one can only satisfy the constitutional requirements to be a presidential candidate if both parents of the candidate are “Zambian by birth or descent”.thats why he cant be the president

  28. I think holding elections within 90 days is better than having the vice take over for the rest of the term. Otherwise, by now Malawi would not have had another Mutharika as President.

  29. To all Zambian citizens, family and friends and the world itself. I humbly say the lose is for everyone.

  30. I feel sorry for Zambians within a space of 12 years, 2 Presidents have died in the office (May their souls rest in peace) this situation has something to tell us, we the present generation, our constitution stipulates the minimum age of participating in Presidential elections and does not specify the maximum age, when a President die in office it takes the country severe steps backwards as the situation in Zambia the vice President is not allowed to take over the Presidency on paternity grounds, which means someone has to be in acting capacity until elections are held. Mind u the person in this capacity position does not in any way have the mandate of the electorates. President Sata couldn’t wrap up his first term of five years and Zambians are devastated as to why is it that such a short space of time 2 Presidents could die in the office. Fellow Malawians this in one way apply to our own scenario, President Mutharika died just three years into his second term aged almost like President Sata it is high time maximum age should at all cost come into play, i propose age limit of 65 years anything more that this the aspiring Presidential candidate should be bared. Remember the aborted attempted coup by the mid night six, remember the consequences of being led by someone who does not necessarily have the mandate of noble citizens, cashgate, jetgate, maizegate just to mention a few. I sent my heart felt condolences to the people of Zambia and wish them well in this trying moment, scrutinise the Presidential candidates about to contest in the up coming elections their ages, health status alike to avoid having shadow Presidents in the next 20 years also. I rest my case

  31. Fare you well ! King Cobra, you were a man of action. Yes you may not have achieved everything you would have loved to see in Zambia but your track record will continue to live on.

  32. analosela kale mtumiki wa Mulungu TB Joshua izi. kungoti anthu ena samakhulupilira. i think its time to start respecting annointed men of God like TB Joshua

  33. Rest in peace indeed. A Sata sananjoye uprezidenti. He waited for so long and is likened to our JZU, but only stayed a while in office. Moyo suwathudi uwu!

  34. All this time he was in good health and the Zambians not being told the truth. African Leaders, the majority of them die in other countries. They dont develop their healthcare system because they dont see it as a need as they can aford to go abroad and get the best treatment. There is so much to learn from Late Nelson Mandela.

  35. Adopting Malawi constitution will bring back chitaganya in zambia. Cobra rest in peace will miss your boldness.

What is happening in zambia that now is second sitting president dying ?

OR aka ka ufiti kanyanya maningi mu zambia ?

  36. RIP after fighting to enyjoy the high office for decade after your policing in Solozwi just close to where I was born. I knew as a police officer and later as a politician. The legacy you left is that people who want to occupy the high of the land with minimal education do not understand a government. As a result, they always end up in a mess. Kalale mwino na sikulu wobe. Lesa akupale. Awe mwandi insansa kubakayere.

  37. May His Souls Rest in Peace. As usual, Malawi will follow the lead that Zambia has taken. We also have a 77 year old president.

  38. SHEEE KOMA YEHOVA MULUNGUWATHU MULIBE NZANU NDITHU, WACHUMA, WOSAUKA TONSE BACK TO THE ROOTS ,DUST & MAGOT SHALL BE OUR FATHER , RIP AMEN .

  39. We are told what happens in Zambia gets repeated in Malawi. Rest in Peace Michael Sata. You have
died having left something for your people. In Malawi leaders leave presidential villas and burial places including cash gate.

  40. Ndiye mulungu ameneyo.Taking life at its sweetest.MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.We came from HIM and to HIM shall we return.

  41. tb joshua, so sad what wil be the next death paja mukumalosera ndinu ku lagos kwanuko مدطجفوسجدطجد ULOSI WAKE ABALE ATI IMFA YOKHAYOKHA WASALA NDIWENSO ULOSELE ZAIMFA YAKO TAKWIYA NAWE KWAMBIRI

  42. Rest in peace Sata. He has been sick for a long time ndiye ndisamve TBJ akunena kuti anapanga prophecy.

  43. May the soul of the late Sata Rest in peace. You tried your best to change Zambia but God has taken you before achieving your dreams….. that’s a lesson to us (death !!!)

  44. The vice president would automatically take over the post, that’s what the Zambian Constitution reveals. Once we choose somebody on a post we must reflect at all angles to avoid such disputes>>> I observed in Malawi struggling in period like this whereby the vise was not considered to take over, but she did.

  45. What happened to Cobra? Barely two years in office and the Man is no more! May his Soul Rest in Eternal Peace

  46. I sometimes fail to understand as most of the times politically, what happens in Zambia happens in Malawi.!?!

  47. meaning that TB Joshua’s prophesy has come to pass.I really suppose that you are not a prophet from God because everytime you came with doom prophesy. In the bible when prophet prophesy, s/he ask people to repent. When they repent the bad thing was not happening.

In 2012 after prophesying the death of late Bingu wa Muthalika you said that one of the PSQUARES will die.Later one of them challenged you that if you don’t meet under waters he will die but if you meet non of them will not die.Until now non of them decease.

These points support that you are a prophet from the dead not from God.

Shame on you son of the DEVIL.

  48. I lament for tonehe demise of Sata
Zambians you are not alone at
this trying time. Melancol has sadly covered the SADC with
loss of one gallant sons of the
region. Fair ye well Michael C Sata.

with the loss one gallant son of

  49. May his soul Rest in Peace, we are together crying with you Zambia. You will see someone without senses delegating someone kkkkkk

  50. He will be remembered as the opposition leader who was unceremoniously deported from Malawi and driven from Chileka to Mchinji border …………..by the Malawi government , then under DPP as now. No crocodile tears please……………….Let Ba chilupysa King Cobra rest in the grave

    1. Do you mean that harsh ride was the cause of his ailing health? Then DPP should not pretend to be sorry. That is why APM is not able to go to Zambia. He will most likely send Bakili.

  51. THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT IS SO DEMANDING THAT THE HEALTH OF THE AGED ONES JUST GETS WORSENED.FROM THE AGE OF 65, ONE IS SUPPOSED TO BE RESTING AND ENJOYING HIS RETIREMENT PERIOD IN ORDER TO AT LEAST PROLONG HIS LIFE SPAN RATHER THAN READING THROUGH SO MANY REPORTS AND BEING SUBJECTED TO MASSIVE PRESSURE. IT BECOMES EVEN A MUCH MORE THREAT TO ONES LIFE IF ONE ASSUMES THE PRESIDENCY AT AN ADVANCED AGE(LATE BINGU & LATE MWANAWASHA AND NOW LATE SATA’ S CASES) AS OPPOSED TO A SITUATION WHERE ONE GROWS WITH THE PRESIDENCY (MUGABI’S CASE).

HEALTH BILLS AND ULTIMATELY FUNERAL EXPENSES ARE A COST TO POOR AFRICAN COUNTRIES WHICH SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT DURING VOTING TIME.

“MAY SATA ‘S SOUL REST IN PEACE”

  52. what a loss for Africa and the Zambian people. Michael Sata was a president and a half. Rest in Piece King Cobra

  53. rest in peace king cobra who is going to led zambia take care u bembas ur pillar have fallen down, may his soul get eternal life amen

  54. Why only southern Africa leader are daing like chicken when I see mugabes future any time he can follow also this we call P.wamutharika he is on his way. God bless Africa AUSE M UMTENDERE

  55. Zambian constitutional amendment on parentage was a personal vendetta of Chiluba against Keneth Kaunda but it now puts the country into constitutional crisis. Sorry Zambians for the big loss. One Zambia One Nation!

  56. Do not fight Zambia. Follow your constitution. No boardroom coups. Just do the right thing. The whole world is watching. May peace be upon Zambia. May the late president’s soul rest in peace…

  57. So sad, RIP King Cobra. BUT !!!!! BUT !!!!!!!!, in my view the appointment of Lungu will put Zambians in a Constitutional Crisis.

Hot Debate, What do you think?

  58. @MaiMai we will indeed have a constitution crisis here in Zambia…I trully wish we had like ur Malawi constititution were VP takes over.Imagine we have elcetions this year and a year later another election……so sad for mother Zed.

  59. What does the constitution say on vice president who is of foreign national? Why was he elected in the first place, samadziwa kuti iyeyo mzunguyo sangalamulire?Mzungu ndi munthunso, tamusiyeni agwire ntchito

  60. So Mutharika was right by sending Muluzi to represent Malawi during their independence celebration taking into account that Sata was chased out of this country mwa mwano by the late Bingu. Peter ndi dolo adaiwerenga!!!! RIP Sata!!!!

  61. This is wake up call to Malawi, this is the consequence of electing an old man like of this type. Next time elect a young man

  62. this is a gret loss to the Zambians n Africa. To lose a president is losing a mother in the fomily.R I P mr president ,we will miss u.

  63. Vuto lomasankha nkhalamba pa mpando wa u pulezidenti ndi limenelo!! Munthu walandira peshoni meaning he is past his time, then we are busy turning that guy into the Head of State. Are we mad??? I’ll always remember your existing Malawi by road by force the time you came here. Anyway, Rest In Peace King Cobra- Michael Sata!!!!!!

  64. Rest in peace papa. What else can we say, in 2012 the dark cloud had eclipsed the land of Malawi now it is on our brothers and sisters in Zambia. So far to our neighbours he is the second to pass on while in office. We are really scared as we follow in their foot steps and bearing in mind that history repeats itself.

  65. better mzunguyo let him take over mukhoza kunjoya you Zambians. Lunguyo angokuberani nkuthawa. RIP Sata. Zambians loved you.

  66. We weep for Sata. Its new that presidents now die while in office. A thing that never happened in our olden days. Kudya zonona? Mwina usatanic wachluka? Levy mwanawasa, Bingu, now King Cobra Chilufya Sata. Tiziuopa manje uprezdent. lmfwa ishi. RIP

  67. Petr this should be your last term ulindi zaka 70 chakuti and it will be insane for malawians to vote for this guy again 2019 it will be insane indeed

  68. RIP.
BUT YOU ZAMBIANS SHOULD ADOPT MALAWI constitution when president dies, vice takes over till end of office. ..bwenzi muli ndi mzungu as president now…kkkkk

    1. You think Malawi has a better constitution than Zambia? By the way this is not a laughing matter, learn manners about death, we have lost a president and the vice president will take over… you are so despicable.
