Zambia’s celebrity singer Mampi to perform in Malawi

Mampi Mukape, Zambian R&B singer, fondly known as Mampi, best known as one of the celebrity housemates in the Big Brother Africa (BBA) reality TV show, is scheduled to perform in Malawi this weekend.

Nyasa Times has established that the 26-year-old ‘Queen Diva’ from Lusaka will jet into Malawi on Thursday through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe.

“We are using this as a way of Mampi thanking her [Malawian] fans who supported her during BBA,” said Malawi’s own queen of ragga Wendy Harawa who is organising the shows, alongside Phindu Promotions.

She added: “We also considered the fact that we have brought a lot of males, we thought why not a female artist this time around.”

Wendy described Mampi as one great female singer from this part of Africa, saying “she has a golden voice, great stage work and all.”

The Zambian vocalist, also songwriter and dancer, last came to Malawi in 2006 as Wendy was launching her album ‘Nowa Kusowa’.

“She is so excited to be back in Malawi after 6 years. Now she wants to give out the best from her albums, that time she had one album,” said the ‘Sindilichoncho’ singer.

Mampi is expected to perform in the commercial city Blantyre at Mkango Lodge near Chileka Roundabout on Friday night, alongside Lucius Banda, Wendy as well as Lulu.

Saturday night, the Zambian celebrity singer will perform at Mungo Park in Lilongwe and she will share the stage with Lucius, her compatriots Orga Family, Wendy and Joseph Nkasa, among others, before the last performance at Tilipano Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Mampi shot to fame in 2005 with her debut album entitled ‘Malozi’, which was followed by the ever popular ‘Chimo ni chimo’ and the 2011 ‘Natural Born Star’.

She also adds a touch of reggae and kwaito music to her repertoire and some her most popular songs include ‘Nina Muona’, ‘Sunshya’, ‘Wakumbali’ and ‘Your Love’.
