Mozambique-based professional Zicco Mkanda has started from where he stopped last season after scoring a double to inspire his tea Liga Desportiva De Maputo a 5-0 thrashing of of Desportivo De Nacala on Saturday.
Mkanda, who is Malawi national football team fringe player, described the double as a step towards improving on last season’s haul of 11 goals.
He scored second top goal scorer just two goals shy of the top goal scorer in the 14-member league.
The victory has pushed Liga Desportiva De Maputo to second position on the log table with 13 points having won four games, drawn once.
Neymar, Andro and Liberty scored the other goals to complement Mkanda’s efforts.
Maxaquene, whose Malawian former international goalkeeper Simplex Nthala is in top form lead the table from five games.
On Saturday they maintained their 100 percent record with a 2-0 win over Maion de Quelimane.
Former Silver Strikers’ youthful striker Chawanangwa Kawonga also featured for his team FC Chibuto in the team’s goalless drawa against ENH de Vilankuli.
Chibuto are on seventh position on the standings while Ferroviaro de Nacala Velha anchor the table with just three points from five games.
