Zikwanje-gang arrested in Mchinji

The so called Zikwanje-gang of robbers who have been terrorising Mchinji District has been arrested on Thursday after a police operation.panga

Mchinji Police Spokesperson Sub Inspector Moses Kajawa Nyirenda said people in the district have been living in fear because of the gang which was threatening lives.

Kajawa Nyirenda confirmed that Abraham Mwale aged 39 and Joseph Willy Banda aged 35  are among five members of Zikwanje-gang who have been arrested.

Nyirenda further said on Wednesday the 26th of August at around 7:30 pm they robbed trader Chisomo Sakala of K125, 000 at Mchinji Boma, as he was coming from his shop. The money was for the sales of the day.

Police spokesman said Sakala was assaulted and left with big cut.

They also went to Kamwendo trading centre 18 kilometres from Mchinji boma where they carried a lot of criminal activities.

Police spokesman also said the gang also attempted to rob at Kamwendo Revenue office but they failed.
The suspects will be charged with robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of the penal code and attempting robbery contrary to section 302 penal code.

Some of the gang members arrested include Joseph Mwale aged 35 hails from Chimbiya village in the area of traditional authority Chiseka in Lilongwe District, Abraham Mwale aged 39 hails from Simuta village in the area of traditional authority Chulu in Kasungu.

Police are advising members of the community  to be on the lookout for the  pange-gang.
