Zimbabwe boxer in Malawi for Chiotcha bout: Speaks tough

Charles Manyuchi, highly rated Zimbabwean boxer based in Zambia arrived on Thursday in Blantyre, Malawi for an eight round non-title middleweight bout against Malawi’s renowned opponent Chimwemwe Chitcha on Sunday at BAT Ground.

Manyuchi, who defeated Osgood Kayuni on unanimous points decision in a catch-weight fight in Zambia a month ago, is bubbling with confidence that he would include the Malawian hard hitter on his record of 13 wins, one draw and one loss.

He said he would use the bout as part of preparations for his African Boxing Union title fight to be staged in Burkina Faso in August.

“This is part of my preparations. Chimwemwe does not pose any threat to me. I have studied his style and I know his weaknesses. Having a lot of strength does not make one a great boxer,” said the 23-year-old boxer.

But Chiotcha said he was in high spirits to take on the Zambia based Zimbabwean boxer to make amends for his controversial loss to Tanzania boxer Francis Cheka in International Boxing Federation Africa belt fight in December last year.

“I suffered a controversial loss and I will make him suffer for the sins he didn’t commit. I am in good mood and looking forward to the fight. I have had good preparations,” he said.

The 25-year-old boxer has 12 wins through knockouts and one defeat.

Manyuchi wa accompanied by his manager and promoter Chris Malunga of Oriental Boxing Quarries and trainer Mike Zulu.

He made headlines in Malawi after he defeated local junior welterweight champion Osgood Kayuni at Government Complex in Lusaka, Zambia.

This would be an interesting bout as both boxers have a point to prove that they are the best.

Oriental Boxing Quarries promotion is interested to rope in Kayuni and the manager Malunga was impressed with his performance against Manyuch despite losing.

The boxing fans in Zambia and commentators did not give any chance to Kayuni to survive as Manyuchi has a knack for knock-outs.

Mulanje Last Boxing Promotion manager Mike Chitenje is promoting the fight.

Brian Mwando another Zimbabwean boxer, who is engaged to a Malawi’s boxing queen Agness Mtimaukanena will also fight a Malawian boxer Alick Mwenda in middleweight category early next month.
