Zomba United ready for Blue Eagles in Carlsberg Cup

New look Zomba United have promised fireworks against Blue Eagles at Nankhaka ground in Lilongwe in their Carlsberg Cup round of 16 slate this Sunday.

In an interview with Nyasa Times, United coach and sole sponsor Noel Gobede said his side is unfazed with the prospect of meeting the Super League side adding he has quality in his team.

He said much as they respect the law-enforcers, his team has prepared to take on any side in the course of the prestigious competition.

“I always say that our tough game was against Evirom in the preliminary round. Having booted out Blantyre United, we knew that the going will be tougher but I have the players to do the job,” he said.

Gobede oozes with confidence having roped in veteran mid-fielder Charles Kalaile who recently returned from Mozambique, former Griffin Young Stars gangling forward Precious Zimbiri and former Blantyre United right back Wado Ching’oma, among other players.

However, the Pride of Zomba as they are affectionately called will have to shrug off the resistance from Blue Eagles’ Micium Mhone, John Banda, Charles Ngosi and Schumacher Kuwali who can make life difficult to opponents on their day.

The law-enforcers are charged up following their 6-1 walloping of Karonga United in the TNM Super League last weekend.

To reach this stage, Zomba United saw off Evirom FC and Blantyre United through post-match penalties in both encounters.
