Kabango: They hanged themselves for unknown reasons

Dedza police spokesperson Edward Kabango confirmed.

“It’s indeed two students belonging to catholic faith have simultaneously hanged themselves for unknown reasons. The medical reports have shown that the two have died of suffocation due to strangulation following their hanging”, said Kabango.

He  said Auriliano Malamusi was found dead hanging  after he returned from Malawi University of Science and Technology where he was a student.

His father stays within the seminary campus where he is a lecture.

Kabango said Malamusi, 26, was sent back from the college due to lack of fees and on Tuesday was heard shouting at his parents after a beer drinking session.

After the shouts, he was later found dead and postmortem showed that he died due to strangulation following the hanging.

Malamusi hailed from Chiphwanya village in Dedza.

On the same day, Kabango said, a seminary student was found dead and hanging.

Kabango said Horacio Augusto suffered malaria and was admitted to Mtendere Mission Hospital.

After he was discharged, he went into a toilet where he hanghimself.

Augusto, 20 hailed from Mozambique. Police are yet to establish why Augusto decided to hang himself.

First, the author failed to establish a compelling resonance of the title and the victims faith in the article – there is really no reason to mention their faith, let alone the Catholic Church. One gets the impression that the author is trying to highlight a negative image of the church.

Secondly, assuming that the immediate events leading to the death of the MUST student are true, then this young man surely had a big problem. Yes I feel for the parents, but its probably good riddance.

The hanging has nothing to do with the victims’ faith, why include the faith of the victims? We have read many articles of people hanging tbemselves on this forum but no faith was mentioned of the victims, what is slecial about these two cases? Am i missing something or this is mediocre journalism?
