3 men arrested in K11.2m Admarc theft

Police in Blantyre on Saturday arrested three men who on September 6th duped of Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) Limbe depot K11.2 million worth of goods using fake cheque.

Police managed to apprehend the three, George Mhango 45, Blessings Mtika 35 and Blessings Banda 23 on Saturday morning after a long car-chase in the town of Blantyre.

The three engaged in the car-chase with the law-enforcers after failed attempt to dupe the depot of another K11.2 million worth of goods using another set of fake bank cheque.

Driving Toyota Salon (Sprinter) MZ 5298, the chase ensued from Khristwick to Namiwawa BP filling station where they collided with a minibus in the process before hitting part of the filling station. Southern Region Police Public Relations Officer, Nicholas Gondwa disclosed to Nyasa Times in an interview that the three were on wanted list since last week after Admarc officials alerted police of the incident.

“On September 6th this year they collected goods from Limbe Admarc using fake cheques. After realizing they have been duped, the Admarc officials alerted the police. And today the same people went to same Admarc depot and produced another K11.2 million fake cheque, but the officials were quick to inform the police who responded swiftly,” Gondwa said.

Gondwa said the three, currently being held at Blantyre police station, will be charged with forgery, uttering documents, and obtaining goods by false pretence.
