Former Accountant General David Kandoje, who was arrested last Thursday for allegedly authorizing payment of two cheques amounting to K500million to Staddal Building contractors without appropriate documents, was on Tuesday granted bail by the Lilongwe High Court.
The High Court granted bail to Kandoje on cash bond of K5 million after he was charged on two counts of abuse of office and theft by public servant in connection to cashgate.
He was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) whose deputy director Reyneck Matemba did not challenge the Kandoje’s bail application, but only requested the court that bail conditions should take into account the gravity of the offences.
Besides K5 million bail bond, Kandonje was also ordered to produce two cash sureties of K2 million each. His house on plot number 18/5/707 was also attached to the bond.
No date has been set for starting of trial. Kandoje previously appeared as a witness in other cashgate cases during which he confirmed signing and authorizing payments to various individuals and companies involved in cashgate scandal.
Meanwhile, the cashgate case involving Muzipasi Moyo over money amounting to K435 million, Bandula Chirwa, and Steven Mwenitete amounting to K67.2 million has been adjourned to April 21 and 22 and April 23 and 23, respectively.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
