Malawi FA panic over national team sponsorship: Nyamilandu admits ‘Flames brand’ shunned
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandi Manda has admitted that his association is finding it difficult to secure new sponsors for the Malawi national senior football team, the Flames.
The association is hunting for new sponsors as their K250 Million three year sponsorship romance comes to an end this year and the chances of Carlsberg continuing with the sponsorship are minimal.
Nyamilandu told Malawi Broadcasting Corperation (MBC) this week that all the companies they have approached are shunning the Flames brand and opt to rather sponsor a trophy.
“Alot of companies are interested in sponsoring cups,” said Nyamilandu.
Arguably, this is as a result of Flames recent poor perfomance leading to the team failure to qualify both to the next coming World Cup as well as African Cup of Nations (Afcon) competitions.
“Everybody wants to be associated with the winning brand but I hope sooner or later we will be able to secure a sponsor for the Flames,” said the FAM boss.
The Flames who are in the foundation stage of appointing new Flames Coach are expected to participate at the CHAN tournament early next year.
