Mayor of Mzuzu Challenges Airtel Malawi

Mayor of the city of Mzuzu William Mkandawire has challenged Airtel Malawi to come up with mobile telecommunications that would provide ready solutions to modern needs.

Speaking on Thursday during the official unveiling of the new Airtel Premier shop at the Mzuzu Shopping Mall, Mkandawire said it is high time assemblies’ services were accessible via tangible mobile telecoms applications.

“As a leading brand, Airtel needs to be in the forefront of spearheading the revolution of mobile phone based solutions. In this era, we need our communities to enjoy access to security, health services and banking at the touch of a mobile phone,” he observed adding that, it was high time mobile telecoms providers made deliberate efforts to make their products, services and solutions affordable.

The Mayor also called on local councils across the country to be ICT conscious their operations in a bid to modernise their services.

“Adopting and synchronizing ICT in our councils would not only minimize operational costs, but also make ease our communities of the burden to access the councils,” said Mkandawire.

He then applauded Airtel Malawi for unveiling the new shop in the heart of the city of Mzuzu saying this would anchor the much needed convenience, a core at any business venture.

In her remarks, Airtel’s Customer Services Director Sibusiso Nyasulu said as a business player, Airtel targets to provide solutions and avail its products and services conveniently to its customers.

“Our unveiling of a new shop here in Mzuzu tonight speaks volumes of how the brand has passion for its customers. We would like to grow with you and get each other excited in business sense,” said Nyasulu.

She further disclosed that Airtel would in the near future open another shop within. Mzuzu city to reach out further to its customers easily.

The colourful unveiling ceremony was graced by Inkosi Ya Makosi M’mbelwa, Justice Dingiswayo Madise and Parliamentarian cum business tycoon, Harry Mkandawire.

The opening of the new Airtel Premier shop in Mzuzu comes barely a few weeks after Airtel donated a number of concrete street bins to the city.
