TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers reeling under pressure in this campaign have engaged the former international star midfielder Peter Mgangira as assistant coach.
Silver Strikers’ chairman McDonald Mafuta Mwale said Mgangira was roped in to assist coach Stain Chirwa.
Mgangira’s engagement midway through the season has raised eyebrows with the team’s poor run although Mwale said it should not be cause for alarm.
He said Chirwa, who was engaged midway through last season had not assistant and Mgangira would fit in that role.
“We have engaged Mgangira as assistant coach to assist Chirwa because he had not assistant,” Mwale said.
He said the former nimble footed played for the club and Flames who se promising career was hampered with recurring injuries was natural choice having going through the Silver Strikers system.
“Mgangira has been in the system and he knows Silver being one of former players,” he said.
“It would not be difficult to fit in our plans.”
Mgangira played for Silver, Civo United and Blue Eagles and had a professional stint with South Africa’s the then PSL league Jomo Cosmos.
The decision has come at a time the defending champions are struggling in the campaign worsened by the nine points docked by Super League of Malawi as punishment for the violence in Balaka against Mighty Wanderers.
Silver Strikers are in the relegation zone having played eight games, four wins two draws and two losses and have 5 points.
Blantyre United have also 5 points and are second from bottom while Mighty Wanderers are bottom of the table with four points from nine points.
