Winiko vows to be media defender in parliamentary committee
Comedian-cum-politician and Member of Parliament for Mulanje South, Bon Kalindo alias Winiko has promised to fight for media freedom after being elected to Media Committee of Parliament.
Kalindo said in an interview after Friday’s Parliament session that he would be the voice of the media in the committee.
“I will try as much as possible to bring about issues that will enhance media freedom. Though I am new to the committee, I will try to study issues that are on the table first concerning the media and I can assure the media that they have a friend in me,” he promised.
Kalindo further said that he would specifically focus on fighting against media harassment in their line of duty.
“We are talking about giving relevant information to the media and also the harassment of the media when they are covering functions. Media harassment should be a thing of the past,” he said.
Several other members of parliament have been elected to different committees of parliament. On the same note parliament adjourned sine die on Friday.
