10 suspects escape from Balaka Police Cell
About 10 suspects have escaped from Balaka Police Cell during the wee hours of Friday 4 November 2016, Nyasa Times has established.
Nyasa Times learnt thatr the suspects escaped through a hole they created through the wall of the cell.
Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Edith Kachotsa refused to comment and give details on the matter when visited at her office on Friday afternoon and referred Nyasa Times to Eastern Region Police Public Relations Officer Joseph Sauka.
Sauka confirmed the development but said there is no cause for alarm as police have already launched a man hunt for the escapees.
“It is true that some of the suspects that were being kept in Police Cell at Balaka Police Station have escaped,” said Sauka.
“All the suspects who have escaped did not commit serious offenses and we have already started hunting them and I can promise you that we are going to apprehend them” said Sauka.
