2 die in Nkhatabay road accident, 3 severely injured

At least two people have died while three others are battling for their lives at Nkhatabay District Hospital following a motor vehicle accident that occurred at Kawalazi turn-off in the district on Sunday.

According to the police, the deceased  have been identified as Kelvin Kasambara from Chikondawana Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Timbiri who was a driver and Maxwell Kamanga from the same village in the district.

The police report further says that the vehicle registration number BLK 3185, a Toyota Hiace minibus, carried a football team from Mpamba to Kawalazi Tea Estate.

On their way back the driver failed to negotiate a left bend and eventually lost control of the minibus and subsequently overturned three times.

Following the impact, two died on the spot due to severe head injuries while three other passengers got injured.

The three are Double Kamanga, John Kamanga and Stellia Chirwa who had fractures and deep cuts.

The vehicle which had 20 passengers on board was extensively damaged.
