Blue Eagles pile misery on Moyale 3-1: Malawi TNM Super League
Blue Eagles Saturday piled more misery to travelling wounded men of Kaning’ina, Moyale Barracks with a 3-1 beating during a TNM Super League match played at Nankhaka ground in Lilongwe.
Coming from a 5-1 hammering against top of the table Mighty Be Forward Wanderers in a midweek fixture at Balaka stadium, men of Mzuzu had it tough in a space of four days by conceding eight goals and scoring twice.
Blue Eagles have moved from position six to fourth with 24 points from 15 games finishing the first round while Moyale have dropped to position five from four from 15 games with 22 points and have concluded the first round.
Eagle’s striker Mphatso Philimon was the hero of the day when he claimed his second hat trick of the season and tops the goal scorer chart with seven goals.
The first half saw Moyale failing to put a gallant fight to erase their Wednesday’s nightmare as their striking force of Khuda Muyana and Charles Chilembo could not break Eagle’s solid defence of Wonderful Jereman, Alupheous Nyoni, Gio Banda and Steve Chagoma.
Eagle’s captain Micium Mhone twice broke loose on the right flank and sent searching crosses in which Maxwell Salambula failed to convert from close range.
Sensing danger Moyale pulled out Wester Phiri for Deus Mkutu nine minutes to break in order to strengthen their midfield which was failing to contain Eagle’s Phillip Masiye and Gregory Nachipo at the heart of the centre.
The two teams were deadlocked at interval but Eagles looked more of a composed side than Moyale.
Four minutes into second half Eagle’s striker Philimon connected home Mhone’s cross to open the score sheet.
Eagles brought in Chisomo Chilasa in the 51st minute for Salambula whose coming changed the tempo of game and improved their attacking formular.
Two minutes later, Eagle’s substitute Chilasa broke through and his powerful shot was parried by Moyale Keeper Juma Chikwenga before Philimon slot it home to make it 2-0.
Moyale’s striker Muyab pulled one back in the 86th minute after Eagle’s defensive mix up and he eluded advancing goalie John Soko.
A minute later, Eagle’s danger man Philimon stretched the lead to 3-1 when he drove a grounder beating Chikwenga on an acute angle.
“Am happy we have ended the first round with a win and we are now in top four,” Chairperson of Blue Eagles, Alexander Ngwala said after the game.
He said they need now to work hard in the second if they could achieve something tangible.
An official from Moyale Barracks just said, ” we have lost to a better side this afternoon and nothing to add.”
