“It is part of our ambitious commercialisation drive,” Hmm, should we believe this? How many times have we heard of similar statements from super league teams and yet there is nothing to show for? Ambitious plans require ambitious people with an apt to push and a knuckle to crack things up. Just telling people you are planning this or doing that in itself does not mean anything to us supporters. Show us your goals? How achievable or measureable are they? We need to see results and results that are tangible and are there for everyone to see. 5 years from now we will hear the same story and from the same team without any results and the cycle will continue in that order. It’s called madness!
The only international reconsigned team in Malawi
Wanderers, like Nyasa Big Bullets, are not clubs but teams controlled by their sponsors. There is a difference between a club and a team.
A team is like a band of people doing a sporting activity or being involved in a competition. A team lacks a proper setup and is controlled by third parties or sponsors. A club is setup as a community franchise running as a professional entity and is people- centered. A club has a permanent name which is a brand name, a club house, stadium, kit sponsors, administrative hierarchy, youth team categories, marketing partners, scouting department, etc . A club can not be controlled by its sponsors but treats sponsors as partners in business ;a club can not change its name to the name of its sponsors.
It is not wise for Wanderers to be called Beforward Wanderers or Bullets to be called Nyasa Big Bullets, but in these current prevailing conditions, and knowing what struggles these two teams have gone through due to lack of competent and qualified football administrators, Wanderers and Bullets are forced to use their sponsors’ names and thereby dance to their tunes even if not good for Malawi’s football development. The two teams would have been well established and independent by now judging their long history of existence coupled with nationwide support, but administrative failures deprived their development and in achieving professional status.
However, Beforward is doing a good job in injecting funds into a destitute team. A begger has no choice.
