DPP plot to boo Malawi VP Chilima at Parliament: Mchacha pays party cadets
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has been turned into a theatre of confusion a amid claims there is a plot to boo Vice-President Saulos Chilima at Friday’s State opening of National Budget session of Parliament in Lilongwe because of the Chilima-for-President crusade that is gaining support and possibly turn into a movement within the rank and file of the party.
DPP Southern Region governor Charles Mchacha, who was spotted driving around in the city shadowing the April 27 anti-government demonstrators organised by civil society organisations (CSOs) against disbursement of K4 billion fund to legislators and other issues, is said to be given the task to marshal the plot and has reportedly paid party youth cadets money so that they can sing praises to President Mutharika and disparaging comments aimed at Chilima.
The DPP cadets have also been instructed to cheer and chant for vice-president (South) George Chaponda.
The matter has also been taken to social media, with a DPP sympathiser Bob Chimkango posting under his Facebook name ‘Bog Khalifa’ condemning the move.
“Stop giving these boy these handouts to perpetrate such uncalled-for behaviour and violence. Empower them so they can make the right decisions and right choices,” Chimkango, a lawyer, wrote.
Former First Lady Callista Mutharika openly thrusts Vice President Saulos Chilima towards a presidential run under the DPP banner at the expense of incumbent Peter Mutharika—who is her brother in-law— a proposal which has been backed by some members of the party including legislators Bon Kalindo, Noel Masangwi and Allan Ngumuya.
Callista openly said her in-law President Mutharika is “aged”; hence, Malawians should not give him their vote and install Chilima as President instead.
The endorsement of Chilima has worsened the tension between the President and Vice President and divided the ruling DPP.
But Mchacha scoffed at the accusation that he is organising the DPP youth cadets to disrespect the VP, insisting the youths are only backing Mutharika as their presidential candidate for the 2019 elections.
“We resolved that President Mutharika was the only centre of power, and unanimously agreed that Mutharika would be our President beyond 2019. Those who choose to ignore this will face the full wrath of the party,” he said.
University of Livingstonia political analyst George Phiri warning the DPP youth plot to bring the government and the presidency into disrepute.

I don’t understand why politicians in Malawi keep on repeating the same mistakes, Atcheya during the time of Ayimanso those who surrounded him paid the youths to chant & terrorise those who stood against 3rd term. And what happened? Did Muluzi succeed in his wish? We all know that constitutionally Mutharika is free to stand as a presidential candidate BUT now these are members of the same DPP who are calling for Chilima to be the torch bearer. Democracy is about to respect what the majority wants, just go to the convention then choose in between Peter & Saulosi then you put the matter to bed. Whoever wins then represents the Party on elections, period.

The DPP is sawing what they will reap in 2019. Malawians have had enough. Instead of correcting the many things Malawians are complaining about you are busy intimidating, castigating the voice of reason.
Malawians are used to seeing the President and his/her Vice not in good terms as it is this time around – some of us can understand you better. Now that you have failed to bring divisions between the two then you are trying to cook stories that could portray the picture that all is not rossy between them.

I don’t agree with people who tend to disassociate Chilima from the rot that is going in in DPP. The man is in DPP. He is of age. He joined DPP regardless of all the suffering that Bingu caused on Malawians. After all that evil yet one ypundambitious guy new in politics dared to join DPP and helped to rig elections. Come 2018 he is still there and yet silent. My take is that Chilimba is in DPP and all these people are his mates. They know each other very well. Leave them alone.

The truth remains that Chilima is part of the DPP mismanagement. If he was man enough he would have jumped ship and condemn the party on some of its blunders such as the MK4b issue as well as murder of Njaunju. If indeed he performed on the reformation program, then why is the credit not spread across the DPP leadership but just to him alone? Yet in all the flops of the DPP he is singled out. He is simply a beneficially of the sympathy vote as Malawi is well known with. Let him come into full scale politics so that we should appreciate his maturity.

VP Chilima probably had noble intentions to leave his well-paying job to join politics by helping the DPP party get dubious votes in Southern Region.

DPP is for the Muthalikas extended to the Lhomwes and not beyond. Even amongst the Lhomwes there are tentacles, you have to belong to Thyolo, Mulanje or Phalombe and maybe with a bit of luck Chiradzulu so that you should be calling shots within the party.
Even amongst pipo in thyolo Mulanje n Phalombe there are many who don’t want the party. There are mang’anja,yao pipo in this belt.

That’s exactly how slavery was flourished and perpetuated from 400 years ago. Our own chiefs used to work with slave traders to literally sell their own subjects for a pittance. 400 years down the line the mentality is still so embedded in our genes, passed from generation to generation. It is for this reason that grown up intelligent and presumably wise adults are able to sell their souls for a few thousand Kwachas. DPP has been selling its own people to foreign investors for a few ‘bribery” bucks. Foreigners are looting instead of developing the country and are doing under the watch of the ruling party. Kids are willing to cause havoc and do the unthinkable against their own people for a few thousand bucks; talk of mental slavery!!!!! Malawians need serious exorcism to emancipate ourselves from slave mentality.
