Wiseman faults Mutharika on stadiums pledge

A Chancellor College political commentator has told President Peter Mutharika to avoid promises of petty issues, saying he needed to fix things instead other than making political gimmicks like  pledging ti construct stadiums for Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers to gain political mileage ahead of May 21 polls .

Wiseman Chijere Chirwa: Petty pledges

Mutharika on Sunday promised during his whistle-stop  directed Malawi National Council of Sports, Blantyre City Council and Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development to strategise on implementing the stadium projects for Bullets and Wanderers.

But Wiseman Chijere Chirwa, a senior lecturer with the University of Malawi at Chancellor College said Mutharika should instead fix public health services problems, public education services problems and food insecurity, among others.

“People want to hear what his administration would do to improve the public health sector problems, the public education services problems, the food insecurity. The stadia issue is very petty. That is not what Malawians want now,” said Chijere Chirwa.

Chijere Chirwa said the construction of the stadiums cannot be a priority area for Malawians.

He said Malawians are not crying fir stadi, they need good health care, good roads, good education, good water and good public service.

On sports facilities, other commentators pointed out that the Malawi netball team, the Queens  that has been shinning on the global scene without any tangible infrastructure befitting them domestically and yet they have been loudly crying for a netball stadium.

Mutharika made the promises during his whistle stop tour in Blantyre.

  1. So other teams are not important? So which region benefits from these developments, what about those who do not benefits from these; Who suffers?

  2. After all the noise, protests, bitter comments by you here, who benefits? Bb and koma plus their supporters..whether its political or not what matters is the fulfillment of the pledge..if its done so be it good news to football lovers in the country.learn to see good in other peoples lives..don’t be selfish…God loves those who love to see others prosper..

  3. Boma imangire stadia Bullets & Wanderers, aaah y not KB & Red Lions coz ndiye ma team awo. Campaign yalembedwa m’madzi kicks of a dying horse kwaipa kkkkkkk.

Nkuluyi watha ma plan vuto dyera ndiye kaya asova

  7. He has laid several foundation stones and we are not ready for the extra two stones. Malawi is not a sporting nation and we do not eat stadiums. There are several pressing needs as well articulated by the Prof Chijere Chirwa.

Education is in a mess, road infrastructure is horrible and can’t stand the test of time, health services and other public services are in a pathetic situation and yet the whole law professor thinks building stadia is the best priority for Malawians. He thinks he can win sympathy votes from football lovers!!

Mutharika and his DPP should not be telling us what they will do. We already heard that prior to 2014 elections. They should be telling us what they have done against what they promised to do.

  8. And when is he going to condemn political violence being done by his cadets???? on we will assume he is the one giving out these orders just to intimidation the opposition parties

  9. Misala ija ndi imeneyo. Kalindo sananame. Nzeru zatha. Mchekulu. Wakalamba. Chilima ndi UTM anakhoza kuchoka mu DPP. Mabi okha okha. Tikhalire zimenezi zowona a Malawi. Dziko lotembeleredwa.

  10. I totally agree with Wiseman Chirwa that promises to build stadia for teams in Blantyre is cheap campaign. Malawians have no food no clean drinking water no good schools no good hospitals very bad roads no tarmac roads in locations in Blantyre or Lilongwe and many other social issues. Lack of medicine, lack of electricity and many many social shortfalls. This dementia patient of a President is about to die he has no proper political advisors and they are desperate knowing they will lose elections. Stupid promises. People of Malawi don’t eat football. He is a fool he must be booted out.
Being a Professor of law is not a guarantee that you’re a clever individual from what we are seeing in this Mutharika. It Just proves that Mrs Mutharika so called Professor Getrude Mutharika is a very bad wife and idiot.
The country is lacking good leadership. This Mutharika proved a failure during his tenure as Minister of Education he failed to resolve Academic Freedom stand off at Chancellor College, Zomba. He shouldn’t be the President of Malawi. I blame Joyce Banda for losing the elections in 2014.The country is stinking. It’s been run by Dausi and Mchacha and two Police men at area 30 who getting instructions from the politicians.

  11. I totally agree with Wiseman, I think Mutharika has no vision for this country, he has aged,. School for Health Sciences closed months ago yet he has money for stadiums…………….. useless!! let him go!!!!

  12. The president is campaigning and he can promise anything as long as it will help him get back into office. Others are doing the same, promising the electorate all sorts of unbelievable things, why don’t you say anything.
Man can not live by effective hospitals and police alone. Govt has a duty to improve every aspect of of our lives for the well being of its citizens and this include sports.
If i got the president correctly he said “…matimu a Nyasa Bullets ndi Beforward Wanderers alibe maground awoawo opangira training…”
Is Malawi so poor so that by allocating a small amount for constructing mere two training stadiums it will affect the national purchasing of drugs in our hospitals?
Govt is building stadiums all over the country so what’s wrong if it can do the same for Bangwe and Ndirande Townships and be conscesioned to Wanderers and Bullets respectively for use as training grounds?

    1. Zamatimu a mpira is not duty of govt. to sponsor private clubs, so it is a very very petty issue politically, economically and ethically.

  13. Za ma stadium zinali nthano chabe za gogo maliseche. Kodi nthano zimakhala nkhani zoona? Tamaonani nokha ndipo musamataye nazo nthawi za gogo uyu

  14. Why building stadiums for private entities when the government sponsored teams don’t have.
Chonde amene muli nawo kufupi bwanawa, akamwa mankhwala mudziauza adzigona kaye.

  15. What about Other teams who lack the same facilities ??
Will you do the same to them?
This is very poor reasoning by our head of state, I don’t know may be it’s old age at its best.
Even my grandma who is also in 90’s can better reason than this president.

Please if there is some money which lies idle at state house then plz invest in Education, Health and Escom.

    1. Am an ardent Supporter and Admire of DPP and the Muthalika,s . They make realistic strides to transform the Landscape of Malawi. But for this ridiculous Stadium Promise is baseless, useless, cureless and a waste of time for the Head of State.
Whoever is advising or making public speeches for the President is silly and stupid. The HE should know that Nyasa Bullets was stolen from Malawians from the crooked Greeks who pretend to be investors in Malawi. Its not in public interest whatsoever. There are areas in our society that the President can allocate resources but not to enrich foolish and Crooked investors.
As he was making the statement in Machinjiri last week residents had do usable communal road network. They are struggling to drive to work to their respective offices. Its so pathetic.
Lastly, we have many teams in the Country that do not have stadiums there is nothing special for the rotten Bullets and my Mighty Wanders team.
What we expected from the Government is to build three more state of the art stadiums in the country that will enable the country to host International tournament like AFCON, COSAFA and may be SECAFA. We have Kamuzu Institute in Lilongwe which if upgraded would make sense.
      Mwaganiza bwanji Your Excellency!!!?????

Think twice Sir. If not allocate these resources in the Hospitals and other Public Utilities other than wasting the money on the Haiyas Please Your Excellency.
