CSOs bay for Dausi’s blood over setting MEC warehouse on fire

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) have demanded for an immediate arrest of minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi for  allegedly being responsible for the torching of a warehouse.

CSOs want action on Dausi who is accused that he did set a MEC warehouse on fire in 2014
Dausi: Named by Chilima as one who set MEC warehouse on fire

Dausi’s involvement in the torching of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) warehouse in Lilongwe came to limelight recently when the country’s Vice President and UTM president Saulos Chilima mentioned the minister as a master minder on the ploy.

“We call upon the Homeland Security Minister Nicholas Dausi to clear his name on allegations that he is responsible for the torching of a warehouse which held amongst other things ballots for a vote recount.

“We believe the allegations made by the Vice President as serious and we call upon relevant authorities to arrest Mr Dausi so that he can answer these allegations,” reads part of the statement read by the HRDC in Lilongwe on Monday.

Led by HRDC Chairperson Timothy Ntambo and his Vice Gift Trapence, they said they need closure on the incident of the night of July 15 2014, fire burnt the warehouse and destroyed some property, including ballot boxes scheduled for a vote recount in a contested Lilongwe City South East parliamentary election.

MEC declared DPP’s Bently Namasasu as winner of the parliamentary poll with 10 956 votes against Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) Ulemu Msungama‘s 10 854, a difference of 102 votes.

But two days before a High Court hearing of the case, which followed a failed recount due to an injunction restraining MEC from going ahead with the process, the warehouse caught fire.

HRDC said with UTM Party leader’s revelations, as Chilima was in the governing DPP when the warehouse was on fire, the matter must reach to logical conclusion.

  1. Malawi is surely an amazing country in the world. Imagine

1: the President finds himself at the centre of corruption scandal involving a government department where proceeds of the vice were deposited into an account of which he is the sole signatory. Guess what ? this man is still in power and is seeking another term.

2: minister of home affairs is implicated in setting a braze an office for the country’s electoral body. This man is still minister and minister of internal security for that matter.

3: a cabinet minister showing his private ( genital) parts ( maliseche – mbulanda ) all over the place including primary school children seeing his maliseche in the media. This man is still a cabinet minister. Minister of trade to be blunt.

    *Surely, I am speechless*.

All these are normal things in malawi. In a civilized world none of these people ( social misfits ) would be anywhere near positions of authority not to mention presidency or cabinet position.

  2. Apite ku court ngati siolakwa zikadziwikila konko, nkhaniyi ndi ya serious siingathe chonchija kapena chonchi.. choona chidziwike, chonde otimenyela ufulu asakubwezeni m’mbuyo anthu enawa.

    Myopic brains

  4. Serious gaps in the story and wrong decision by CSO’s. You don’t arrest an innocent person on hearsay and campaign tantrums until proven guilty or acquiring incriminating evidence. Pounce on Saulosi Chilima to aid your interest on the story before you touch Dausi. This is not an issue of hate!

    1. Which case is arrestable if I may use that word, between being accused of arson (torching MEC’s warehouse) and behaving suspiciously at Chibanja cha aYao, where interpretation of suspicion is at the mercy of the arresting officer or the powers that be.

  5. BOTH CHILIMA AND DAUSI ARE ON A WRONG TRACK. MALAWIANS ARE TIRED OF SKC AND PETER

  6. No doubt, Dausi is capable of doing this and the rumor has been there since 2014. It was just waiting for information like the one provided by the VP. After all, both were in the same camp and associated with vote manipulation which has also been confirmed by the State President. It is better to lock up Dausi now to avoid repeat of the same come 21st May 2019. People have lost trust in all people connected with these issues. I do not think it is just political destruction, it is real coming from high profile people like State President and the Vice President. These are good grounds to limit Dausi’s movements by locking him up now!!!

    1. You fools where was Chilima all this time. Why coming as a white angel now. The CSO should question SKC first. You believe in this absalom?

  7. If Chilima loved his country more than money and position, he would have revealed this and resigned from DPP at that material time. He cannot be trusted, he was complicit and he is as bad as his DPP enemies.
You want to entrust him with the future of this country?. Just look at the EX DPP members surrounding him!!!!!

  8. Saulosi yo ndi amene mukanamupana Dausi akuuzani zizungu zoti sitha kumvapo kanrhu hehe tikuoberani you just want to tick boxes ndikudya ndalama za,ziiii yoi can notcwven donate a tambala kuma flood victims mxii

  12. If I were you I wiuld ask Chilima to say it all unless bgati mwadya banzi muuponda

  13. Mr Ntambo and Trapence penapake act like matured people, don’t be politically emotional. Any reasonable person will called Dr Chilima to at least provide any small evidence to raise that suspicion that indeed Mr Dausi may have been involved. Are you telling me that Dr Chilima is such a saint that he can’t lie? Suppose Dr Chilima change his mind and say no it wasn’t Dausi but Mr Ntambo and Trapence should the police use that mere pronoucements to arrest you just because he is a vice president?

  14. Anthu ngati achina Dausi ndi amene amaipitsa dzina la mcp, akapanga khaza mosatumidwa ndi chipani, lero mkhalidwe lomweli apita nalo ku DPP,kenaka kumaima pachulu mkumati

God of MERCY PLEASE RESCUE OUR MOTHER MALAWI

  16. Should we start arresting people because of kachasu-propelled campaign tantrums? Mutambo and your fellow shallow-minded persons must get alive. So many allegations have been made including kunyambita presidential jet, kunyambita cashgate, kunyambita zakubha zaMasangwi et al and your silence was deafening. Why kukwela pachulu now after a drunken tantrum?

  17. Chilima is an accomplice in that crime if he has kept that information from the nation for the past five years. He has no moral ground to run for president if he knew this happened and kept quiet about it. The civil society groups are being selective in their response to the issue. Both Chilima and Dausi should be arrested and tried kuti aulure anzawo.

  18. We need to know the torching of MEC warehouse and Capital Hill admarc office both were burnt in the same manner.

This guy is indeed responsible and he should answer to Malawians indeed.

He is so evil , burning our taxis in this way bcoz he doesn’t pay tax himself is evil. He is still stack in uncivilised era.
DPP must go indeed , we don’t need such kind of people in government, burning our taxis bcoz of a mere vote is inhuman.

  19. Principal witnesses on arsonist. With full empirical evidence,End of the road .This election will be good akuba tizaulula🌋

  20. The call for the arrest of Dausi is in order but who will arrest him as he is the head of the arresting institutions?
