Mutharika creates new ministry, takes away Dodma from vice presidency

President Peter Mutharika has removed the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) from the office of the state vice president following the Constitutional Court ordered reinstatement of  Saulos Chilima.

Chimulirenji to be ministers responsible for disaster affairs

This means Chilima is the State vice-president without a Cabinet portfolio.

In a brief statement, Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet Lloyd Muhara says the department is now a stand alone ministry.

“I write to inform you that His Excellency president professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has directed that a new ministry to be called ministry of Disaster Management Affairs and Public Events be created,” says Muhara.

It is expected that Everton Chimulirenji, who ceased to be the vice president following the annulment of the May 21, 2019 presidential election will be consolidated with the ministerial post.

Kkkkkk. Kooomaaaa! What kind of decision making is this? You decide to punish someone by giving them a salary for no work? And you have some people around you clapping hands for you for making such a decision? To begin with, know that that decision does not change anything – Chilima is still VP and Chimulirenji is not. Secondly, the court did not rule that Chilima should be responsible for DODMA, so again it changes nothing for him. Thirdly, you will you create another Police Service just because the current one is also responsible for Chilima’s security? Bwana SKC, HE… Read more »

Very bad decision. There are better Departments that are fit to be ministries on their own. Take for example, the Department of water and irrigation; which has zochita bweee koma ndi Department. Osawapatsa Department imeneyi bwanji a Chimulirenjiwo ngati akufunika promotion.

I knew this was coming.
Chilima will be in office and will be assigned nothing from the HE He will only be enjoying salaries and the benefits thereof.
The Constitution must be revisited otherwise this ovp has been thrown into potholes for many years since the dawn of democracy.

When Chilima resigned to work with the DPP, he abondoned these duties of DODMA alltogether. Nicholas Daudi was the one who was doing these duties for 18 months when Chilima left whilst he was still VP. So there is no news here if we have to go by the court judgement which reversed everything to be as they were before 21/5/19.
