New coronavirus infection in Lilongwe: Malawi now records 18 Covid-19 cases

Closing borders is exactly the first step that all sensible governments did all over the world and I would suggest that this is what our government should have done much much earlier rather that focusing on locking down our own citizens in their homes, just because the government want to stop the July election at all cost.

   Why are we still allowing people coming from covid 19 high risk areas and countries like India to enter our country when we want to lock down our own citizens in their homes?
   Why did the government go to town on Judge Kenyatta for releasing those three Chinese people when our immigration officers are still allowing other people to enter our country from those high risk areas without holding them in quarantine centres?

   It looks like this government want coronavirus to spread so that we should
   not have elections this year….but that will not work.

Am very surprised up to now why the government is not enforcing the use of masks.Malawians start using masks, do not wait for this sleeping government to wake up.People allover the world are using masks in public places to avoid droplets from the affected people who are healthy.Lockdown it’s not for poor countries because that will be sending Malawians to an early grave.More people without food will die than what coronavirus can do.My advice start covering your mouth and nose now.By doing that the affected people will protect healthy people and healthy people will avoid the coronavirus.If you are not using masks it means you want to the virus to be transmitted to you. Clever people are using masks now.Women can make masks for thier families.Tailors can make masks.Stop complaining about the judge find your masks atleast two masks.When you use the other one, u can clean the other,if they are made from cloth.In Kenya they are doing that and its a hot business there.South Africa government has asked it’s citizens to use masks in public places. South Africa is on lockdown,the government is able to assist the citizens with food parcels and money.Old people gets old age social grants all people above 60yrs. Children gets Child grants, people who are disabled gets disability grants,the most vulnerable citizens will be getting something and those who are in small businesses.R500 billion has been sent aside for that purpose. Can Malawi government do the same, I don’t think so.The only solution for Malawi is the use of masks daily in public places and social distance + washing your hands for 20 seconds with soap when you touch anything including money.Do not wait for the government to give you masks.It will be too late by then.If you want to save you life do that. Government please close borders and no international flights should come into the country, only if for medical purposes. Life is beautiful.

    1. The name of the person, where he/she stays, the name of doctor and hospital test were conducted, etc, are not important what is crucial is a certain specimen taken from within Malawi has come out positive so it adds to the current toll.

Hygiene must be encouraged at all cost. Lockdown is a last resort. Even in China where the disease started, they never locked down the whole country.

19. What you guys are doing is daylight robbery. You can call for press briefing when you are not ready with details of the infected person. That’s very stupid. We know the whole intention is to justify claiming the allowance on daily basis. Next time please invite the media when you have all the details. My appeal to the media is that next time such a stupid thing happens again force Namarikja to provide you with the details before he leave, otherwise what kind of news story are you going write? Does the Ministry of Health not have a Communication Specialist to be able to advise these thieves what the media expects when you engage them? This is utter waste of time and other resources to say the least. Again, why is he alone today when yesterday there were three officials to update us on the pandemic? This is one way of creating a chance for each one of them to be able to claim the allowances – stupid. Buy food for the poor and street kids with the money you are receiving from the multilateral organisations. Buy soap and distrinute to the villagers so they protect themselves from the infection.

23. We now have 18 COVID infections, but the correct statistics should be 15 infections out of 18 with 3 recoveries if my memory saves me right, this sounds less scary, and more hopeful.

       1. califonia , USA , the health experts have found for every person tested positive at least 50,000 more will be at large untested. when I read and study the Malawi situation I fear for all my friends . In UK we have lockdown and I personally have seen nobody for 3 weeks except by looking out the window. WHO organisation expect deaths of 500,000 in sub Saharan Africa. Half a million and still I see people close to each other. Believe me when I say you don’t realise the devastation coming your way. In many counties they cannot bury them quick enough, Another huge problem not yet realised is outside Africa it is the people of colour from Africa who are dying, In London almost 85% of the deaths are from Imigrants even first generation are just dropping down , nurses and doctors also and scientists are baffled why most deaths are not of white people (mzungus)
