Mutharika moves out of State House to private sprawling Mangochi residence

Mutharika’s Mangochi private residence

As President Lazarus Chakwera was taking an oath of office in Lilongwe, former president Peter Mutharika hurriedly packed his belonging from Sanjika Palace in Blantyre and made his way to Mangochi his retirement home.

Mutharika was mobbed by supporters in DPP regalia in the Eastern Region.

Mutharika, 80, is said to have built a sprawling mansion in Mangochi where he will enjoy his forced retirement from politics.

Upon arriving in Mangochi, Mutharika was met by hundreds of his supporters who cheered and danced as he enlightened from the vehicle he was being driven.

A jovial looking Mutharika was seen interacting with his supporters as his bodyguard Norman Chisale looked on.

The supporters chanted “Adad omwewo, ife sitilola” implying that for them it is Mutharika whom they acknowledge instead of his successor Lazarus Chakwera.

Mutharika lost the June 23 elections to Chakwera and has not contested the results of the election although he highlighted that he had reservations over the electoral process.

  1. Muthalika will be remembered as the architect of tribalism though the scheme was started by his brother Bingu. Muthalika was just very arrogant and never took advice from anyone even those surrounding him. The only advice he took was inflicting pain on others like Vincent Nundwe, George Kainja, the CJ Andrew Nyirenda and many more. Muthalika wanted to kill even his own party. What was the rationale of bringing Atupele Muluzi as his runningmate? Why did he sideline able people like Heatherwick Ntaba? What was wrong with Bintoni Kutsaira? Muthalika dug his own grave and no body will sympathize with him. Dr. Kamuzu Banda was criticized for his style of government but he did not promote tribalism. All the roads we see in the north except Chitipa Road were done by Kamuzu Banda. 90% of the hospitals were constructed by Kamuzu Banda. The public schools took almost everyone and even Chilima never went to a private school during Kamuzu Banda. O Chakwera ndiye odakulira mu umphawi wadzawoneni and this man is very intelligent. I hope Chakwera will give priority to education. Education should always be number one and teachers must be highly motivated and should not be looked upon as second class civil servants. The streets must have a new face. Others are like agriculture are drivers of the economy. We need clean hospitals as well. Nsikidzi.

  2. please chonde arrest all the cadets and find out who gave them the authority and impunity to terrorise the malawian citizens. its time they reveal their real bosses

  3. If all looters of public monies are allowed to retire into luxury right next to the poor, who unfortunately sing their praises, then something is seriously wrong with them and the system. There is no deterrent. Every next Joe can become President for 5 years, enrich himself and walk? It’s time to account for and punish! NEVER AGAIN! NOT ON MY HARD-EARNED TAX MONEY!

  4. Hey Malawians, we need to be tolerant and accept that not all folks will go for the Tonse Alliance. If we did then there would be no democracy. And the most pathetic folks are those who think all educated people shud be for Tonse Alliance. Noooo. You town folks who claim to be enlightened are the easily manipulated folks. People who can accept subtle propagandist like SKC.

I am not exonerating APM but simply putting it that let those who love APM do so without being looked down on. Its their right!!!!

  5. Why Mangochi and not Thyolo? Alomwe mukumva bwanji? Munthu wanutu akuti sangakhale kwanuko. Ndiyr mudzifunse kuti chifukwa chani? Komanso paja Alomwe ambiri anapita ku Mangochi pa program ya Kudzigulira Malo, koma sindimadziwa kuti a Mutharika anakhudzidwanso ndi ndondomekoyi. Ziwathandiza akalowa chisilamu.

    1. Kani ndiwe opusa chonchi! Mtundu wa a Malawi ulu Pali ponse pomwe iwo akufuna. Chakwera ndi zimene walonjeza Kuti zogawana mitundu Kuti zithe. Iwe uli mfwe mfwe mfwe kunyoza alohmwe. What a stupid fool!

  6. I think APM was weak in his administration. He let bad people around him influence his decisions. The likes of Dausis. It’s time for a jump start for our economy.

  7. This Master Mbavaa APM, and late bingu… have in their 13 years of mafia rule, have looted and stolen close to USD 4Billion without any sense of guilt, morals, or patriotism. Both Mutharika’s and Muluzi have proven to be rotten money suckers of the people of Malawi. Both have taken Malawians for granted for past 26 years. Both parties have ruled Malawi as if it were their family estate. They did not care 1 bit about Malawi, nor did they care about any Malawians, unless you were Yao or Lomwe. Poor people died of hunger, died due to lack of basic medicines, and other gross negligences. All that sufferings, pain, and hardship, that these 2 families of rotten leaders have given to Malawians, tantamounts to crimes against humanities. Open all the cases against Muluzi, and against Apm, as apart from their hands being dirty with looted monies, these two crook leaders have blood of innocent people on their hands too. So the law must take its course. These two MUST pay for the crimes they have committed, and let that be a strong message and example to all future leaders and would be mbavaas, never to take people of the republic for granted and must not loot the country at their will??? NO!!!!! THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!! If former leaders and ministers, PSs, civil servants, etc, are found to have wrongly amassed the wealth, all must face the law, even if that means investigating JB, and all stale politicians and civil servants currently portraying to be part of Tonse. Nobody nor Noone is above the law of the republic of Malawi. Mbavaa zonse AMANGIDWE… for the sake of people of Malawi. And this is the only way to repair the mass damage, and win the trust of the Peace Loving and God fearing people of Malawi. So go Tonse and show us that law and order is still INTACT and respected by all. GOD BLESS MOTHER MALAWI ❤🇲🇼❤

  8. I think this private residence needs to also be checked by ACB no one could have amassed so much wealth in such a short period of time. Can you imagine how stupid the people of Mangochi are? They voted for the same man who is responsible for their poverty?? are they serious!!! And they even welcome him with open arms.

    1. This private residence needs big checked by ABC anatibela misonkho yanthu mkukagula cement yocholuka kwambiri ndeno ameneyu ofunikadi kufufuza bwino bwino

    2. The most stupid people in Malawi are from Mangochi. They don’t think about their future to them as long as you are from the Southern region then they will dance for you.

      1. don’t forget he joined politics ali billianare. but its good to be investigated and find the truth so that these allegations can be put to rest

    3. Chikoko Bay is a not a sprawling private residence but a state lodge. For your information, it is the state that has taken him there until they find him a retirement home, mwapulika?

  9. Salolanso zichani munthu wafika kudzakhala ndiakatu mbweeeeh. Mpatseni gasu ndi zowedzela nsomba aumve Kuti Moyo wakumudzi umafuna chani akadwalanso osamulola Lupita kuzipatala zakunja Kodi Ali mwa amfumu andani akamulondoleze Ku clinic ndi Ku a getrude kumjigo kotunga madzi ndizidebe pamutu. Moyo ndiozunza osamadzikundokila wekha chilichonse.

    1. He has at least a legacy that he allowed peace to prevail in the heat of demonstrations by the demons. He would have been haunted if scores of people were killed under his orders. Fortunately most drops of blood crying in the soil ranging from politicized albino killings, anamapopa, demo victims and the recent election nyau perpetrated blood shedding, to a greater percentage, all these had blessings from MCP, UTM and HRDC. Surely, one day somebody will be answerable to God. Today they are angels but God is not man that he can be fooled.

  10. get back those security men please bwana Chakwera. He doesn’t deserve such a security.

  11. what did he do for the people of Mangochi while stealing their taxes?? what happened to the city and airport he was supposed to build in Mangochi????

  12. He is being audited as we speak, MRA is sealed off for auditing, no end insight for Nyekhwe

    1. Hehehheheh, history is repeating itself. Kamuzunsotu anayamba chonchi, kumafufunza anthu kenako kumawalanda zinthu anthu kumaombela manja. Zikafika kwainu kuti mulandidwe ndipamene mutsekuke manso. Kenako muyamba kutifufuza anthu amene tikulemba ma comment okudzudzulani Pano cholinga mutikhazike chete. Tili Pano pa Malawi tiziombela limodzi. Ichi ndichiyambi chabe.

      1. Zimenezo nzimene munkachita ma cadet.Ulamuliro wanu watha monvetsa chisoni.
Yense anaba khobidi la nsonkho wa amalawi timufufuza basi.

        1. Kamuzunso nrib MCP zinali Za bufelo, thank Muluzi Kuti sanafune kumuzunza mu ukalamba wake. MCP HQ building was built with government Money.

  13. My first thought is did APM build the sprawling mansion with his money or money of the Malawian people that this is a Government house? Is this where the cement was used? Also surprised of the large numbers of security detail. Will be difficult for the former President to have everything paid for to suddenly be forced to pay for everything. Waiting to see proof he paid for the buses and Not just took the 200 million buses from Malawi Post as rumoured. Wish him well possibly he can successful in developing assisting a smaller area of Malawi Mangochi.

    1. APM was a paid president with allowamces whenever he performed official duties. He was not being paid eggs that they all got broken. Being a learned mature man, he also had investment ideas. You expected him to start walking and renting at Ntopwa, sorry bwana Banda, he has the resources.

      1. He has resources which are all stolen from the country. 1: His late brother bingu left peter hard cash in millions in foreign bank accounts, totalling to usd 300 Million in 2012. Peter was left the sole signatory to these accounts. 2: Peter and his cronies stole and looted over USD 2.5B in 6years. So what bullcrap are you talking about. On a professors salary and presidents salaries one cannot amass this much wealth. Once a Mbavaa will always remain Mbavaa, it’s their family custom. Mutharika Mbavaas Bros.

      2. k3 billion for importing cement, donating luxury buses? You think that came from allowances and savings?

    1. Keep babbling moron
It not just a bad dream or nightmare and you will at some point wake up from, get real. Those fake stage performance cosmetic similes will not lsat. Be prepared for more agonizing, emotionally hurting lonely day ahead.

  14. History will remember apm as a democrat who left office peacefully. Apm was not one of those typical African leaders who refuse to go and usually win every other election. He’s mature and one day history will absolve him.

    1. He had no choice. He made serious preparations to stay on but he realised that his plans had not worked. If he had stayed at State House longer than he did he would have been booted out by force.

    2. What are you smoking? He stole the previous 2 elections in 2019 and 2014. Nobody will miss this bufoon.

      1. Which elections did he rig? Look at the margins n of TA and DPP, doesn’t that ring a bell in ur empty head about last year’s election? Wakusiilanitu sanafune Wowowo nde musamuone kupusa. Dikilani awa ayamba kusintha ma statement a zafeteleza wa 4500 kuti ndi 2 bags ber farmer. Muziona

  15. If I could I would also retire in Mangochi. Lovely place. I hope you people from the lakeshore districts know how fortunate you are.

      1. Well.. How fortunate does it make them to have a former president live amongst them? Will that put food on their table? End their poverty? I am sure why people are voting down the comment.

    1. The lake has hot weather and mosquitoes. As for me, the lake is just a place to go for the weekend while taking my prophylactics. I’d rather retire in a cool weather place with no mosquitoes. Zomba mountain and Livingstonia come to mind.
