President Banda dates Zuma, chiefs
Malawi President Joyce Banda is expected to leave the country for South Africa this weekend where she is expected to have talks with that country’s Head of State, Jacob Zuma, Nyasa Times has established.
According to information sourced from government, President Banda is expected to be in South Africa on April 27, on official visit.
This will be Banda’s first official trip outside the country since taking over the leadership of the country following the death of Bingu wa Mutharika on April 5. Mutharika was buried on April 23, at Ndata residence.
According to the information, Banda will leave for South Africa through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on Saturday morning for a two day official visit. And she is expected to be accompanied by some top government officials.
Meanwhile, some government officials have been advised to leave for South Africa before Banda by April 25.
In related development, President Banda is slated to hold consultative meeting with traditional leaders on Wednesday morning at Mount Soche hotel in Blantyre
The agenda of the meeting is not yet known but according to banners hanging in city of Blantyre indicate that the President will host the traditional leaders in what is described as consultative meeting from 9am.
The meeting will be Banda’s first caucus with traditional leaders, which include traditional authorities (T/A) and paramount chiefs as well as village headmen since taking over the leadership of the country.
