Inkosi M’mbelwa says sorry to VP Kachali
Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa IV on Sunday swallowed his pride and apologised to state vice president Khumbo Kachali urging him to forget all the insults he received at the hands of the chief and the late President Bingu wa Mutharika’s administration.
Kachali and M’Mbelwa had been in a sour relation following the chief’s indulgency in active politics during the reign of late Mutharika.
Their rocky relationship turned into a new twist following the death of president Mutharika on 5 April, 2012 and the subsequent elevation of State President Joyce Banda and Kachali to the high office.
Kachali and Banda were expelled from DPP on 12 December 2010 and become at the centre of abuse at state broadcasting station-MBC.
However, following the appointment of Khumbo Kachali as state vice president Paramount chief M’Mbelwa sent members of the Ngoni cultural heritage group to plead on his behaviour and beg for forgiveness. Kachali refused to accept the apology asking the chief to do that himself.
”The relationship between the two was very sour that Kachali even refused to share the same VIP platform with the chief during the body viewing ceremony for late president Bingu wa Mutharika in Mzuzu,” said a member of the heritage who opted for anonymity.
The source said on Sunday however the paramount chief apologised to Kachali when they had met at Kachali’s residence at Edingeni.
The paramount chief’s apology came in the presence of his subjects who included senior chiefs Mtwalo and Mpherembe, T/As Kampingo Sibande, Chindi and Khosolo, members of the Ngoni heritage among others.
During the reconciliatory meeting which was handled in a typical Ngoni tradition, Inkosi ya Makosi M’Mbelwa gave Kachali a cow and asked him to bury the hatchet and foster a new and positive working relationship.
And addressing rally at Edingeni community ground Vice President Kachali called for peace and love among Malawians.
”Quite a lot had happened during the late Mutharika’s rule but I urge all Malawians to bury their difference and help development the country which is in a economic crisis,” said Kachali.
On a different note, the state vice president said government will continue with the farm inputs subsidy programme which has helped the country attain food security.
