Mzimba Roars: “Chakwera Wahozga!” — President Hailed for Appointing Vitumbiko Mumba as Running Mate
In a jubilant display of unity and gratitude, the people of Mzimba on Monday erupted in cheers as President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera arrived in the northern district for his first campaign tour alongside his newly appointed running mate, Vitumbiko Mumba.

At a whistle-stop rally in Mabilabo, the mood was electric as local leaders and ordinary citizens alike celebrated what they called a historic and emotional moment—the elevation of one of their own to the second-highest office in the land.
The excitement reached fever pitch when Inkosi Mabilabo stood before the crowd and declared, “With this appointment, Mzimba has been elevated, and all the youth across Malawi have been honoured. Chakwera has done what no other sitting president has ever done—he has chosen a running mate from Mzimba who is young, vibrant, and ready to lead.”
The crowd, waving placards and chanting songs of praise, greeted President Chakwera with thunderous applause who assured the district of continued development.
However, standing tall and confident, Mumba spoke with fire in his voice and humility in his tone, calling his appointment “a victory not for me, but for all the young people of Malawi.”
“President Chakwera has not just appointed Vitumbiko Mumba. He has appointed every young Malawian. He has sent a powerful message: you matter, your dreams matter, and your time is now,” Mumba declared, drawing cheers from the crowd.
In a dramatic and playful moment that electrified the gathering, Mumba posed a question to the people: “Chakwera wahozga or wambwita?”—Did Chakwera score or miss? The crowd responded in unison with a thunderous: “WAHOZGA!”
Mumba then urged the people of Mzimba and all Malawians to respond in kind come September 16th by voting for a president who has shown vision, courage, and commitment to inclusive development. “Let us repay this bold choice with our vote. Let us choose leadership that respects us, uplifts us, and delivers results.”
With the spirit of Mzimba fully ignited, the rally left one message ringing loud and clear across the northern hills: Chakwera has scored—and Mzimba will remember.
