Reshuffle at MBC, Mzati redeployed
More heads continue to roll at state broadcaster MBC both Television and Radio, the latest one being internal transfers that have seen self styled news analyst Mzati Nkolokosa moved to research department.
Nyasa Times investigations have revealed that Mzati, a loyalist to the previous Bingu wa Mutharika government has been posted to the once non-functional MBC’s research department as a head.
The research department according to sources from Broadcasting House has been merged with Development Broadcasting Unit (DBU) and the unit is now being called Research and Development Broadcasting Unit.
Nkolokosa will be deputized by Waliko Makhala who worked at the TV station as a Principal Producer.
Emanuel Thuwala who was heading the DBU has been moved to Radio newsroom as a Chief Editor.
Thuwala worked as a reporter at the TV and then served as a Personal Assistant to former Deputy Information Minister Leckford Thotho before he went back to MBC to serve as head of DBU.
According to sources at the state controlled TV and Radio, a new post of “Legal Officer” has been created for Mgeme Kalirani who will cease to appear on TV with his political and legal analytical statements.
Steven Maseya who was the TV’s Chief Producer has been replaced by Sweeny Chinkango and it is not yet known as to where Maseya will be placed.
Maseya is one of the overzealous broadcasters who gave praises to the Bingu administration and ridiculed the opposition through a cartoon radio program called Makiyolobasi.
Unconfirmed reports also indicate that Timpunza Mwansambo has been transferred to Mzuzu to serve as a reporter at the Mzuzu Bureau.
Meanwhile, MBC is facing financial difficulties and creditors are stripping the assets as sheriffs have since impounded the vehicle which former Director General Bright Malopa was using, a Pathfinder.
Even the car Timpunza Mwansambo was driving, a Kia Sorrenzo was impounded. This due to the so many cases MBC has in court.
MBC newsroom has also run out of toner forcing editors to write by hand bulletins than using computers.
It has also been a difficult week for people at the radio station with no post paid phone line working.MTL disconnected the main post paid line following a bill of about K9.3M.
Sheriffs at the High Court are this week expected to sell MBC’s 7 cars impounded following to meet court charges.
