Two faces of Mark Katsonga and his fellows

The interim president of People’s Progressive Movement (PPM), Mark Katsonga Phiri has recently been vocal speaking against the tendency of other politicians who are changing their allegiance from one party to   another at will particularly those in government.

Katsonga Phiri has been telling Malawians that these people should not be taken seriously as they are doing this for their own personal benefit.

“The very same people who started Malawi Congress Party (MCP) then joined United Democratic Front (UDF) later on wore the Democratic Party (DPP) colours are the same who are in People’s Party (PP),” said Mark Katsonga Phiri in one of his contributions to one of the local
media papers.

He is also one of the founding members of the 15 parties which were formed to fight against the bad governance of the former regime led by the former President the late Bingu wa Mutharika.

Katsonga: Aligning himself with PP government

After the death of Mutharika,  Katsonga condemned the Joyce Banda’s administration for accommodating the recycled politicians  -who he described as failed – in her cabinet.

According to Katsonga working with politicians who keep on changing parties or benefiting from the government in the name of “working with the ruling government” is malpractice by greedy politicians who have run of ideas but only there to satisfy themselves.

But only few months from these well cooked speeches which touched many Malawians, Katsonga  has found himself in the condemned politicians’ shoes.

Two of the founding members who often associated with the PPM’s interim leader Gwanda Chakuamba and Kamlepo Kalua are busy campaigning for PP in Mzimba for the forthcoming by- elections this coming October.

“Our policy is to side with anybody whom we feel has got sound policies which can take this country to greater heights,” Chakuamba and Kaluad defended themselves  when quizzed why they have decided to be campaigning for the same party they labeled as associating with
recycled politicians who are only there to eat “mapwevupwevu” but not helping the government.

Investigations have also revealed that even Katsonga himself has been silenced by the Banda administration after his wife was offered a post of Commissioner of Taxes at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) one of the highest positions at the MRA. She has even been seen wearing orange attire.

Malawians are yet to judge if Mark Katsonga Phiri and other members from the regrouping parties are there to assist them or they just want to gain favours from the government and later on claim high posts in the Joyce Banda’s administration.

Others working with the PP government secretly are Friday Jumbe, Sam Mpasu and Ziliro Chibambo.
