Malawi Queens land MultiChoice sponsorship deal
National netball team, the Queens have been offered a lucrative sponsorship deal with digital satellite television service providers Multi Choice Malawi.
The official announcement was made Wednesday at January 16, 2013 at Sun Bird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre during the launch of a new low-cost pay-television service called GOtv.
Speaking to the media, Multi Choice Malawi marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said Gotv has outlined a number of activities that are meant to benefit the country in different areas among them sports, particularly netball.
The big moment came when Nyirenda announced to the audience that it has pleased Multi Choice Malawi to rescue Malawi Queens with a sponsorship package.
“We are pleased to announce that as one way to give special recognition to Malawi Queens which is doing great on the international level and making Malawi proud, we will be sponsoring Malawi Queens,” said Nyirenda.
Details of the sponsorship deal were not announced but Nyirenda that they will make public the sponsorship once they are through finalizing some issues with Netball Association of Malawi (NAM).
Nyirenda also disclosed that Multichoice Malawi will introduce a national netball tournament that will involve the country’s top five teams in the likes of Escom Sisters, MTL Queens, Bingu Tigresses, Civo Nets and Blue Eagles Sisters.
Nyirenda said all the expenses for the tournament which ranges to MK 10 million will be covered by Gotv.
“We will work hand in hand with the country’s veterans in tapping their expertise in using them in commentary and netball analysis programmes and features on TV and radio,” he said.
Netball Association of Malawi ( NAM) general secretary Helen Mpinganjira hailed Multi Choice Malawi for their “timely gesture.”
“This is the first time in our history that finally Malawi Queens has secured sponsorship. This is exciting news we have been waiting for and we are very appreciative to Multi Choice,” said
Mpinganjira.
On the national tournament, Mpinganjira said at the time the netball fraternity is struggling to secure sponsors, it was a welcome development for Multi Choice Malawi to introduce the national tournament.
