Ecobank to open four more branches in Malawi by end 2013

Ecobank , the leading pan-African banking group, has said it will open more branches  in Malawi before the end of the year, 2013.

Media and Brands Communications Officer for Ecobank, Lumbani Kasambiza, said though Malawians are experiencing challenges in terms of finances that have attracted less income for people to invest, in recent times, things have improved as the bank is ready to help its customers by bridging the gap.

“Plans are underway to open at least four more branches by the end of this year. And this will include opening up a branch in the northern region of the country.

“The current economic challenges have caused a slowdown in business since people have less income to invest. However, there has lately been an improvement and things are returning to their normal state,” said Kasambiza.

Recently, the bank has also changed its slogan from what it used to be as “The pan-African Bank” to “The Future is pan-African”.

She said the change of the slogan has a special message carried behind it as the future of economic activity and growth lies with Africa.

“The key message behind this new slogan is that, the future of economic activity and growth lies with Africa. It is time for Africa to unite and build one entity which will sustain the global economy, Ecobank is the bank for this one Africa with a focus on building the Pan-Africa,” she added.

According to the Media and Brands Communications Officer, the bank is unique and offers different services as opposed to other banks as it relies on the understanding of its customers’ needs.

Ecobank tailors its products specific to the needs of its customer, while at the same time ensuring that it maintains the pan-African feel, that is to say that customers in all countries in Africa where Ecobank operates experience the same kind of treatment when they are getting their services at any Ecobank branch.

Said Kasambiza; “The future of the whole world is Africa. This is evidenced by the increase in emerging markets in Africa, the discovery of minerals and resources in Africa and the development and growth of talents in Africa.

“It is also as a result of this that we are seeing a number of regional economic groupings taking place; this necessitates the presence of a viable financial institution to support this growth.

“Ecobank in this institution, with its presence in 33 countries on the continent (Africa), it cannot be disputed that it is “The pan-African Bank, and the future is pan-African,” she said.

Ecobank started its operations in Malawi in 2008 when it bought Loita Bank. It now boasts of establishing six branches in the southern and central region of the country.

Incorporated in Lome, Togo, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), is the parent company of the banking group with a presence in 32 African countries.
