Mutharika says DPP ready to rule Malawi again
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Peter Mutharika told thousands of supporters who thronged Masintha ground in the capital Lilongwe on Sunday that he should be elected as next Head of State with Saulos Chilima as his deputy, to lead the people to a prosperous Malawi.
Mutharika, told the crowds who braved heavy down pour, that May 20 is a chance for them to stamp out a clueless political disaster of the current leadership.
“DPP is ready to govern,” said Mutharika.
He promised to be President with a vision and a mission of development state.
“Malawi needs to go forward with DPP,” he said.
He also urged DPP supporters and all members to be united and work together, saying that is the only way the party can register victory in the 2014 elections and go back into government.
Chilima spoke about national unity.
He said Malawi needs stability and progress, saying the DPP government would promote me unity that binds people from across the race, ethnic and political divide.
“Cast away your bitterness and forgive our erstwhile enemies and work hand in hand with them for a new Malawi,” said Chilima.
Roads in the capital were turned into a DPP roadshow as the party supporters, most of them clad in the party’s blue colours with the portrait of the former president Bingu WA Mutharika, and a convoy stretching almost half a kilometre formed a carnival.
