Peoples Party (PP) Northern region Provincial Chair Rev Christopher Mzomera Ngwira has said the secession call for the north has nothing to do with the former ruling party and that.demonstrations  in support for the north independence will be held soon.

Recently, Chiefs from the region called on PP president Joyce Banda to take disciplinary actions against Ngwira for campaigning for secession.

Senior Chief Kameme of Chitipa and Senior Chief Fukamapiri of Nkhata Bay made the remarks during a meeting between chiefs and Presidential advisor on unity and parliamentary affairs Symon Vuwa Kaunda.

“We wonder why the party is taking no action against Ngwira whose ideas of the north independence seems to differ with the party’s stand on the issue,” Senior Chief Kumeme.

But Ngwira said the issue is not for political parties but for the northern region.

“This issue is not for an individual but for every person who comes from the north. We know it’s a tough going and its consequences but we will face it and succeed.

“Some of these calls by the chief are not from deep down their heart but because they follow anything from the government that’s why they are saying this,” he said.

Ngwira said had it been that PP won the elections and ignored their wish, they could still demand justice.

He said they will soon announce a date for demonstrations for northern region secession.

  1. I am in full support of Rev Christopher Mzomera Ngwira for advocating federalism or secession. I promise the organisers of demonstrations that many friends of mine have expressed to attend the noble cause of the oppressed northerners. If we want federal system or secession, why it should concern you (southerners)? We need to debate on this matter. We are not being forced in this regard. We have decided and chosen it ourselves. Southerners keep quiet. Hon. Christopher Ngwira don’t give up on this noble cause. Actually it is too late that this is coming to the pick like this now. We would have done it sometime back. We need federalism or secession now! now! now!

  3. This is serious business justice needs to prevail. If indeed Malawi is for ‘all’ why should only a few from one one or two districts benefit. Government should not intimidate anyone by downplaying this issue. It’s not just happening in Malawi, look at how Scotland has made England Shake in its boots. Forward Mzomera, Kazombo and the rest concerned parties.

  5. Your Royal Highnesses, the chiefs please allow the debate of Federalism take place,do not shoot it down even for a bundle of a million dollar. You could be hurting the future of your subjects. You are not elected like politicians do, its by customs and culture passed from generations.

    If you could remember in the time when fighting against federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, some Chiefs opposed the fight because of bribes and were labelled capricorns. I remember very well when some of our chiefs were humiliated for denying their subjects change. Please refrain from being used by politicians. I was very fortunate growing up those days as a grandson of very wise village Headman who understood his roll as a traditional leader.

    There is nothing wrong with federalism. It has advantages and disadvantages like any form of government system including the so called democracies. I have seen democracies making mockery of their voters.

  45. Call for session or federalism does not mean chasing non-northerners from Malawi. Ngwira is not saying deport all non-northerners. But strangely most people equate session to deportation: the two words are completely different. Munapita sukulu za kuti? The correct response to call for session is not threat to chase northerners from Central and South but to let them exercise their freedom of choice. Hydro source,solar,wind,coal energy, and nuclear will be promoted to diversify energy sources.

      A country that is in the north part never fails to succeed.All haters in the south shouldn’t worry because they have industries in Blantyre that pay good(joke) and will give them more jobs if ever available.Stay with your underdeveloped Blantyre that you are very proud of.
