MSCE results out with pass rate of 54.8 percent – Malawi National Examinations Board

Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology have finally released the much awaited Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination results with 54.8 percent pass rate.exam-results-136382494117512801

According to a statement from Maneb made available to Nyasa Times, out of 130, 293 candidates
who wrote the examination, 71,486 have qualified for the award of MSCE certificate, representing 54.8 percent pass rate.

Only 26 candidates were disqualified for the award of the MSCE certificate for failing to adhere to examination regulations.

Maneb indicates that female candidates managed to get 46.94 percent pass rate as 27,306 out of 58,170 candidates passed the examination.

“Out of 72,123 male candidates who sat for the examination in at least six subjects including English, 44,180 have qualified for the award of MSCE, representing 61.26 percent,” reads in part the statement.

It said 45,325 internal candidates have passed out of 77,621 who sat for the examination, representing 58.39 percent pass rate while out of 25,467 external candidates 12,538 passed, representing 49.23 percent.

This year’s results have seen a rise in the pass rate comparing to last year’s where 66,853 out of 127 383 candidates passed the examination, representing a 52.48 percent pass rate.

Meanwhile, Maneb and the Ministry said the examination results will be posted to all examination centres and have advised candidates with queries to write the Maneb by November 13th, 2014.

  3. That’s all about Malawi…don’t even think about education but stealing! Shame on u!
Can’t help your own future…and then u cry saying the country is not developing! How will it be with much ignorance caused by thieves?????

  4. I think we have a major problem when we only achieve a pass rate of just over 50%. Malawi has a very bleak future if this is the best we can do.

  5. Maina aokhoza plz ikani pa net tiwaziwe ena ssitili ku Malawi so tikufuna tione acha bale athu analemba! Plz Plz

  6. Its great but I think when marking those exams something always happens!!……komabe congrats to those who managed to make it with flying colours!!….

  7. A country without future. a country that breed thieves. awarding MSCE to 71,000 candidates.

a country that run useless curriculum for our children.

Simple Arithmetic clearly shows how our country is sick.

    71,000 -5000(universities intake)= 65,000
    66,000- 5000(Technical and other Govt Colleges) = 61,000

Out of the remaining 61,000 candidates, how many can afford tertiary education? your guess is good as mine.

Please bring career based subjects in secondary schools. Let students learn Mechanics, Computer Repairing, Electronic,Carpentry, etc from form 1. Not learning subjects that will not help them when they complete their studies.

    1. You make good points, If this government can get those district technical colleges up and running, that will go a long way to providing a brighter future for our youths and the country. I think secondary school should be for theory as it is though, the application should come there after.

  15. 54% pass rate is depressingly low. Think of the sheer number of kids that are in the failed 46%; and the money wasted thereby. Let’s address the problem at its roots – no excuses, no buck passing. Otherwise, we will have a generation of semi-illiterates. It just takes 10 years. We are seeing it already. And, by the way, why do we need both MSCE and university entrance exams for public universities?

  16. Fifty five percent (a 2.3% increase from last year) pass rate is pathetic. Our education system is dire straits. Why don’t we find out the actual problems? This is an emergency! Ine izi ndiye zangondikwiyisa baasi (this is shameful!). How can we hope to develop in this competitive world, with results like these?

  22. Your list of candidates is incomplete. You say 130,293 candidates wrote the exam. But your breakdown of 77,621 internal and 25,467 external only total to 103,088. Similarly you say 71,486 passed the exam with 45,325 internal and 12,538 external totalling only 57,863 passes. Where are the rest of the candidates and their pass rates? Please media people report accurate facts.

  23. bola tikhonze….chifukwa ife zonse zimatikanika…akazi nje!..bawa..nje!..malucks nje!..dola nje!,..sukuluso ikhale nje!..ayi mayazi a maneb tiganizireni!..

    1. Good question! Unfortunately, I suspect that the answer is: “nowhere”. If you find out anything please let us know.

I have been looking for a Maneb website to find out the fees to be paid for the JCE exams, and when is the deadline for payment. So far, I have failed to find anywhere on the internet where such information can be found.

Only in Malawi can we expect an organisation like Maneb (or MEC) to avoid publishing vital information of interest to the public.
