Tay Grin calls for votes on BEFFTA award: To perform in Ireland

Malawi’s high-flying hip-hop artist, Tay Grin, who got two nominations for this year’s Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (BEFFTA) Awards, has called on Malawians in the country and outside to vote for him if he is to win an award.

The hip-hop superstar was nominated for “Best International African Act” and “Best Music Video” for his new song “The Beach”.

In the first category, the Malawian flag carrier is competing against continental music giants among them P Square, Davido, Timaya, Zahara, Awilo Longomba, Dr Sid, Olamide, Sauti Sol and R2bees.

For “Best Video”, Tay Grin is facing the likes of Pharrell Williams for the video “Happy”, Mafikizolo’s “Khona”, Jose Chameleon’s “Wale Wale” and Mr Jayvic’s “I Love Africa”, among others.

“It’s a numbers game, the more votes I get the higher the chances of winning the award. I call upon all Malawians to take a moment of their time and visit ww.beffta.com/voting http://www.beffta.com/voting and vote for the two nominations,” said Tay Grin.

He added: “My success is our success. We are now at the global table and I can’t do it alone. I’ve worked hard to get here and need your help to finish the race. Let’s vote and bring the BEFFTA award to Malawi.”

The rapper, who won a Channel O award several years back, described the nomination as a big surprise.

“I didn’t see this coming. It’s come as a huge surprise and I am humbled that I would be nominated with such great African artists. Just being nominated is a big plus as this shows global recognition.

These awards are for entertainers around the world. It’s an honour and a great stepping stone for bigger and brighter things. These nominations will certainly open up major doors for me.”

Voting the 6th BEFFTA awards closes on Wednesday, 22 October 2014 and the award ceremony will take place this weekend from 24-25 October at The Hippodrome in London.

The event will attract stars from US, Africa, Canada, UK, the Caribbean and the rest of Europe.

BEFFTA awards honour and celebrate talented personalities in entertainment, film, fashion, television and arts.

Meanwhile, Tay Grin leaves the country for the United Kingdom on Thursday, 23 October,
2014 to attend the BEFFTA Awards and also perform at the event.

The artist is also billed to perform in Dublin, Ireland on October 31 at Teachers Club.
