Malawi fall 11 places on Fifa rankings
Malawi national football team, the Flames, have paid dearly for their poor performance in the Africa Cup of Nations against Algeria after falling 11 steps down the Fifa rankings released on Thursday.
The Flames have dropped to position to 109 from 98 in the world while Algeria who beat Malawi 2-0 at home and 3-0 away in Group B qualifiers in a space of five days have maintained the top spot in Africa.
They are 30 in Africa down from the September ranking of 26.
But the Desert Fox have risen five steps up on World ranking to be on position 15 in the world and Mali another of the Flames opponent in Group are on position 58 after moved one step up.
Ethiopia, who displaced Malawi on third position in the group, have risen to 21 places up after their victory over Mali to perch on position 111 two places below the Flames.
Ivory Coast have lost grip to top spot in Africa have maintained second but dropped three steps down the world to 25 while Tunisia are third in Africa but 30 in the world.
Cape Verde have rise eight places to be on fourth in Africa 33 in the world, Ghana dropped two places to be fifth in Africa but 35 in the world.
Former top ranked team Egypt have leapt 23 places to position six, Cameroon have gained two places to be seventh in Africa and 40 in the world, Senegal eighth in Africa but 41 in the world.
Nigeria have dropped five places to be on position nine in Africa 42 in the world, Togo complete the top 10 position in Africa but in they are 43 in the world.
South Africa have gained remarkable 10 places to be on 12th in Africa but are 57 in the world.
Malawi’s archrivals Zambia have gained positions to squeeze into the last spot of the top 20 in Africa but the former Africa Cup of Nations Champions are 78 in the world.
Mozambique where the majority of Malawian players are plying professional football are on 97 after rising 12 places. Tanzania’s Taifa Stars are risen five steps to staying a step behind the Flames in both Caf and Fifa positions.
Djibouti remain the lowly ranked team in Africa 54 and 205 in the world.
Germany maintain the top ranked team in the word, Argentina second, followed by Colombia on third.
Belgium, Brazil, Netherlands France, Uruguay, Portugal and Spain complete the top 10 in that order.
England have dropped two places to be on position 20 after a pathetic performance at th2 2014 Brazil World Cup despite an impressive start in the 2016 Euro qualifiers.

So….Algeria (15th) ranks better than England(20th) in the world rankings…They truly are among the best of the world, not only Africa. That´s crazy. No wonder the Flames had such a tough time against them. To be honest, they make me feel jealous….
I really dont know what we should do now. I think its best to go back to the drawing board. Maybe even study other countries like Algeria, Malawi has great talent in abundance, all we need are good people to convert this talent into results, and maximise it.
