Malawi Civil Society Organisations have set October 27 for peaceful demonstrations in Lilongwe to demand better health service delivery from government.

Billy Mayaya, the architect of the demonstrations, has confirmed that letters notifying the authorities of the planned demonstrations were delivered on Tuesday to Lilongwe police and the district commissioner’s office.

He says the demonstrations will start from Parliament building roundabout to Capital Hotel roundabout then turn right at the right about to Civic offices where minister of Health Peter Kumpalume will receive a petition..

“We will be joined by nurses and other health workers,” Mayaya said.

Government recently withdrew letters of appointments to over 300 health workers, saying the government had no money to pay them.

However, this drew severe criticism from the civil society organisations who accused the government of taking to the UN, New York a larger than life entourage of 106.

President Peter Mutharika has also been accused of chartering presidential jets in his endless international jurneys when the government cannot afford to hire more clinicians and nurses in public hospitals.

  3. Anthunu mukungonena zambiri za boma. I am not a politician but a health professional, there is a lot of abuse of the funds in the hospitals. For example all the specialists demanded vehicles and they were bought and they get 250 litres of fuel. If they blame the government that it does not care for the citizens why don’t these heartless doctors give the fuel to the patients? How many ambulances would hav been bought by the value of the cars they demanded? How many ambulances would be on the roads with the fuel they receive? Even in very rich countries doctors are not bought cars. Pharmacy ndiye mankhwala amagudwa koma anyamata a pharmacy akungogulitsa Ku anthu a Ku TZ. The list is endless ma MP athu anthu osaphunzira ngati amene aja salary phwiiiii. Fuel mkati! Ma PS mafuta onse aja angosukunula. Zonse achotse! Asafune achoke!!!!!!

  10. Mayaya, the architect, don’t you have other means of addressing issues in the country apart from demos? So all the indicators for your CSO are pointing at government thru demos? How is your organisation assisting the rural poor masses? How accountable are you to government, communities and faithful? I believe you are misleading and daunting bad image for CSOs in the country. Reform to transform, it begins with you.

  12. Stupid shallow minded csos. Why not take time, look at issues behind this and come up witj clear resolutions that u want government to address. Only then can u push for specifics at given time frames. Useless brainless so called csos, that lacks own targets. What is poor health delivery by the way, add how shall u measure and hold the government accountable of any improvements thereafter? Hey, i lough. Dontt rush to the roads but think and plan first! Define your targets better!

Must resign sakunganizila anthu ake koma kumba. Donors too are surprise to hear this. Why to ask donors to help you if your president has the money.

  20. what CSOs are missing is the fact Hospitals do receive funds. yes we might think its inadequate but has anyone ever thought of a FORESIC AUDIT on how these funds are managed?

    There is theft and abuse mu zipatalamu osati zibwana. More fuel is used for staff personal issues more than patients. More money on food staff and procurements end upbto staff than patients and even the drugs that are there are stolen more by staff than the ones given topatients.

    I challenge you CSOs and fellow Malawians. Do Foresic audit first in hospitals, YOU WILL STOP BLAMING GOVERNMENT AND REALISE THE PROBLEM IS WITH THISE THATBMANAGE THE RESOURCES. if we dont do this even if we change governments or bring back Kamuzu from his grave nothing will change. NOTHING

    can you find a section in the constitution that allows NGOs to run a country.

  25. That demo won’t take place. NIB chief spy Dausi will send a crack team to burn a market nearby so that vendors don’t come to join the demo should just but grieve about their burnt goods. They will also send a petrol bomb into one of the houses of CSO members just to distract them. We are on the road to hell.

I agree wth the demos,and I will be there.DPP Gvnt has failed to employ College of medicine Laboratory graduates and primary school teachers for 2 years now.This unemployment blocking is now being extended to nurses,doctors and other health workers.If medics aren’t employed when we already have few,does it give us any confidence in the current gvnt?Zero.Mr. Peter,I know you are reading this.If you donnot trade well,your days in office will be numbered.

All over the country there is a problem of medication yet some people are saying wayaya hehhh atumbuka, so the people who dying in machinga or thyolo hospital are tumbuka??? some people are foolish indeed. Yet others are disagreeing with csos eish aren’t people in your area suffering or are you happy when unemploying is going high yet peter is westing tax payers money?

It’s my plea to the middle class people to put a hand on this MEDICAL stuetion not for the sake of Government and Pitala, but for the sake of the oldnally Malawians(poor people) who have no medical Aid, who have no Life Insurance compared to the HIMOS. You have been spoken so much about this, but nothing is coming out. Let us do by ourselves. Even K100 per person it is enough to save someone than opening mouths hour by hour,day by day, week by week, year by year while our fell people are dying,suffering,children loosing their parents and the parents loosing their children. Let’s do the ACTION,let us stand up and show the world do this lather than sounding so sorrowful all the time. Please all the middle class let’s try to do this by ourselves.
