Tigresses crowned Rainbow Paints netball champs
Complex Tigresses were crowned Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League despite losing their last match against Kukoma Diamonds on Saturday at Blantyre Youth Centre.
Diamonds clipped Tigresses 47~33 and both teams tied on 48 points but baskets separated them.
Diamonds was a better side as they dominated in all four quarters.
The main weakness for Tigresses was in defence with the absence of defender Grace Mhango.
The Kanjedza ladies also struggled in notching baskets following the early sending off of realible shooter Sindi Simutowe, who sustained an injury.
Tigresses received K600,000 for being crowned champions while Diamonds went home with K300,000.
Thunder Queens,who beat Alliance Capital 41~32 received K200,000.
In individual awards, Cathy Yikwanga of Tigresses won up and coming defender while Kondwani Viyuyu of Prison Sisters won the up and coming center.
Sherratie Kaiche of Thunder Queens won the overall most improved player.
In media category, Arkangel Tembo of Malawi News Agency won the best on~line reporter, while Mphatso Malidadi and Lusayo Kanyika of Times Group won print and television.
Innocent Chitimbe of Star Radio was rewarded as best in radio.
