ACB arrest three more civil servants in cash-gate crackdown

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)  has made fresh arrests of three civil servants who were making fraudulent entries in the Integrated Financial Management Information  System (Ifmis).

The three are Michael Mphatso, senior clerk and Samuel Sakala Mzanda, assistant accountant in the Ministry of Tourism and Conrad Nambala assistant accountant in the Ministry of Disability and the Elderly.

Mphatso and Mzanda were arrested on October 22 ,2013 and Nambala on October 23, 2013  according to ACB statement signed by senior public relations officer Egrita Ndala.

“The investigations have established that Mr. Michael Mphatso, senior clerk and Mr. Samuel Sakala Mzanda, assistant accountant in the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife committed various offences under the Corrupt Practices Act and the Penal Code. As a result the Bureau arrested them on 22nd October 2013,” reads the statement.

About Nambala the ACB said: “The Bureau had established that between November 2010 and May 2011 Mr. Conrad Nambala together with others conspired to defraud Malawi Government of huge sums of money.

“All the suspects will be taken to court for them to be charged after they have been interviewed on the matter,” said Ndala.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Tressa Namathanga Senzani  was also arrested by the ACB recently  for alleged crimes on corruption.
