Aford to back Joyce Banda in Malawi presidential race – Chihana
Member of Parliament for Rumphi central, Enoch Chakufwa Chihana, has said his party Aford has no reason not to support President Joyce Banda in next year;s presidential race.
Chihana was speaking at rally addressed by President Banda at Bumba Primary school ground in Rumphi Friday afternoon.
“I am the National Chairman of Aford. I was elected in this position. I am speaking for the party. This President has performed in a manner that no sensible party can have a reason not to support her.
“I am a politician. I am a leader of my party. I declare today that we, as Aford, will support Dr. Joyce Banda for President and I will win as MP here,” declared Chihana.
President Banda commended Enoch’s father late Chakufwa Chihana, saying he was not just a hero for the district, but also for the nation.
“Each and every district has its own hero or heroes. With respect to Rumphi, Chakufwa is the tallest tree that needs no label. The branches of his tree reach the limits of the country because he was one of the catalysts for the multi-party democracy,” said President Banda.
She said for the democracy, such stalwarts fought for, to be meaningful her government remains committed to implement programmes that respond to the needs of the people so that every Malawian gets liberated from the bondage of poverty.
“The one-cow-one-family and the Mudzi Transformation Trust are the examples of the many programmes that I will roll out in order to eradicate poverty among our people,” said President Banda.
