Aford woes continue, Mwenifumbo faction goes to court to force party hold convention

An Alliance for Democracy (Aford)  faction led by party presidential aspirant Frank Mwenifumbo has gone to the High Court in Lilongwe to force the party hold a convention on April 7, 2018 and nullify the appointment of new members into the national executive committee (NEC).

Mwenifumbo: Aford should hold convention

According to the court documents, four Aford members who include secretary general Christopher  Richie, Dan Msowoya, Owen Mumba and Ernest Kanyenda want the party hold the convention on April 7 following  delays by the party leadership to announce dates for the convention.

However, party spokesperson Khumbo Mwaungulu described the faction that went to court to seek the court’s intervention on the convention issue as confusionists.

“These people are just confusing the party. We are not announcing dates for the convention because we don’t have enough money. These people say they have the money for the convention but they are not bringing the money to the party,” he said.

He said there is still time to hold the convention as per an earlier court ruling.

Mwaungulu said the convention organizing committee would be meeting on Friday to chat the way forward.

However, Mwenifumbo said the party is applying delaying tactics simply because the leadership of the party fear of losing their positions.

“These are simply delaying tactics, the leadership just want to cling to power, they fear for their positions,” said Mwenifumbo.

Last week, the Mwenifumbo faction said there is K12 million for the convention but party leader Enoch Chihana is on record as saying the party needs K15 million for the convention.

In the application to court, the Mwenifumbo faction wants the court to compel Aford to appoint and announce within 7 days of the date of the order the convention organising commiteee.

But Chihana said Aford faction should not allow the courts to be running political parties.

With or without other parties other than DPP, they are not going anywhere.
Once again, it is only DPP that can manage this country.

Are Enock Chihana and Frank Mwenifumbo the only ones who can provide Aford with leadership? Both Enock and Frank were cronies of Bakili Muluzi when he was President. And then when Bingu was in power the same Frank wanted press censorship and threatening journalists. Then Enock and Frank, were die hard supporters of Joyce Banda. Both whispering lies in her ears. Enock and Frank are sellouts, the people of the north have amonst them many who are potenial leaders who have no record of selling out their supporters for power and money like Enock and Frank, who can lead Aford… Read more »

Both men Enoch and Frank are more focused on their prostitues and the boozing holes. There are much better men and women who can take AFORD back to its glory days under Chakufwa, Chipeta, Dassu and others. Even Bazuka is real AFORD not Frank and not Enoch please God.

These are mercenaries who are sent by DPP to disturb other parties. AFORD had no leadership wrangles but the re-joining of Dan Msowoya, Frank Mwenefumbo et ela has brought leadership wrangles within the rank and file of AFORD leadership. Hon. Chihana fire them or else come 2019 AFORD will not even get a single seat in parliament. Don’t bow down to these mercenaries who are enjoying blue money in the name of democracy. Look at MCP it has been vindicated that all those who made noise were DPP mercenaries and have happily joined a sinking ship. Kumaona patali bwana Chihana

May I sincerely ask F. Mwenifumbo to go back to his DPP camp rather than bringing confusion in the AFORD. Frank is a DPP plant and you cannot trust him. Frank has never been AFORD since joining DPP and others. You are fighting a lost battle; 2019 has approached and it is bye for you in the constituency.
