Africa athletics body visits Malawi: AAM Polls postponed

Confederation Of Athletics Associations Of Africa president Kainkaba Maboum will visit Malawi from Thursday, 17 February.

Phiri to seek another term

Athletics Association of Malawi General Secretary Frank Chitembeya said Maboum would hold discussions with officials from athletics, Malawi Olympic Committee and goverment officials.

However, Chitembeya did not hint on the agenda of his visit at a time the association is in the process of holding the long awaited Annual General Meeting to elect new office bearers.

The elections were rescheduled from November 17 after delegates raised Constitutional flaws.

In a related development the visit by the Africa athletics body president has forced Athletics Association Of Malawi to postpone again the elections scheduled for February 19 to March 11.

“Be notified that the AAM Elective AGM has been shifted. This is to allow proposals from other quarters and have to choose an electoral body to preside over the elections other than Malawi National Council Of Sports.”

The incumbent committee of president Godfrey Phiri, Vice President Senti Banda, General Secretary Chitembeya, Treasurer Irene Luka has come under heavy bashing for lacking transparency and accountability in the four-year tenure of office.

Following a leaked document reaveling a K23 Million misappropriation of grant Sports Council ordered the association to provide audited accounts for the past four years.
