Africa Athletics president cancels Malawi visit

Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) President Hamad Kalnkaba Malboum cancelled his two-day visit to Malawi at the eleventh hour.

Phiri: The trip has been cancelled

Malboum, who is a Cameroonian, was scheduled to visit Malawi from February 17 to 19, to meet Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM), Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC), Malawi National Council of Sports and government officials.

In a message to AAM President Godfrey Phiri sent on Friday, he simply said that his commitment back home had made it impossible to come to Malawi.

The message did not also give alternative dates for his vist.

“I am sorry to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances requiring my presence in Cameroon I will not be able to travel to Malawi as earlier arranged. Kindly accept my apologies for all the inconviniences caused,” Malboum said.

Although the agenda of the visit has been kept under wraps, well placed sources revealed that among other issues he wanted to sell himself as a candidate for Association of National Olympic Committees in Africa (ANOCA) which is expected to be held soon.
