African Union appoints Malawian as African Space Council vice president

African Union (AU) Executive Council has appointed a Malawian as Vice President of African Space Council.
This means Malawi Space Council chairperson Thandikile Mbvundula will now be member and  vice-president of the African Space Council for a four year term.
The Malawi Embassy in Ethiopia says in a statement Mbvundula was appointed during the council’s 44th meeting of AU Foreign and other ministers that ended on Thursday ahead of the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the AU Heads of State and Government to be held in the Ethiopia this weekend.
She will deputise Ivorian space scientist Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, who was jointly appointed the inaugural president of the African Space Council, which consists of 10 members, with one male and one female elected from each of the five AU regions.
Meanwhile, over 30 African leaders are expected to attend the 37th AU Leaders’ Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa on Saturday and Sunday.
Leader of Delegation, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima who is Minister of Education has offered her heartfelt congratulations to Mbvundula on the appointment.
