Malawi to get 20% of fuel imports through rail from next month

Minister of Transport and Public Works Jacob Hara says the country will from next month start getting 20 per cent of fuel imports through rail.
He says this will drastically cut fuel transportation costs the country was spending through road transport.
In his State of Nation Address last Friday, President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera announced the resumption of transportation of goods and services through rail following the successful rehabilitation of rail line, an exercise which is to link Malawi to Mozambique and Zambia.
Hara’s announcement over the resumption of transportation of fuel through rail has excited fuel companies; National Oil Company of Malawi and Petroleum Importers Limited which have been complaining of high fuel transportation costs through road.
