Airtel Malawi partners with NICO to insure customers

Airtel, the leading telecommunications service provider in Malawi and Nico Insurance firm, have signed a partnership agreement that will enable customers to access the cheaper services through ‘Three For Free’ Insurance which was launched on Tuesday, in Lilongwe.

Speaking during the launch, Airtel Malawi Managing Director Heiko Schlittike mobile phone has become an essential commodity.

He said the partnership is a reflection of the synergies that exist between insurance companies and telecommunication companies across Africa, in providing an exciting and convenient consumer experience.

“I am pleased to announce that from today onwards, Airtel subscribers shall be privileged to use their mobile phone to access life insurance services,” said Schlittike.

Schlittike said introduction of Three for Free life cover on the Airtel network will increase access to life,  accident and health insurance services via the use of mobile phone.

“Airtel aims at linking mobile handsets to this insurance service, thereby easing their access to this viable service, and also adding value and return to the customer’s use of airtime on our network,” said Airtel boss.

Mechanism of the facility according to the Airtel MD is that Airtel customers will be dialling *191# in order to register for the service.

He said paperwork, ID; medical reports are not a required.

When a customer wants to make a claim, terms and conditions have been provided which have to be met by the customers in order to collect the claim within 72 hours.

Deputy Reserve Bank Governor Dr Grant Kabango commended Airtel and Nico for the partnership.

Meanwhile NICO Life Insurance Company Chief Executive Officer Osman Karim says his company is happy to be associated with Airtel, saying the deal will help to reach the people from the grass roots.
