All is set for Standard Bank Knockout Cup to kick-off this year with the re-launch set for Friday in Blantyre.
A statement from Standard Bank signed by Marketing Manager Brian Mungomo said it will be a special year as it will mark nine years since the bank sponsoring the cup and 10 years after FAM introduced the cup.
“We wish to confirm that this year’s Standard Bank Knock-OutCup is going to happen. We are set to unveil the cup on Friday together with FAM in Blantyre. The 2015 tournament is specialas it marks the 9th edition of the Cup,” Mungomo said.
“It will be a stepping stone to the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of our football sponsorship in Malawi.”
He said the relaunch was a mark of the bank’s commitment towards the development of football in the country.
The sponsors appealed to FAM to utilise the competition to prepare the Malawi national team.
“Our customers should look forward to another exciting Knock-Out Cup in 2015. The return of the Cup is a statement of our commitment to develop football in Malawi and take the game and its players to greater heights,” he said.
“It is also our sincere hope that clubs and FAM will take advantage of the tournament to prepare for National Team duties under the new coaching panelled by Ernest Mtawali.”
Silver Strikers are the defending champions of the K25 million.
