‘All students selected to Nkhatabay Secondary School not from North’ -Livingstonia Synod

The Livingstonia Synod of the CCAP Church on Tuesday night took to Twitter to express its disgust with the ‘Quota System’ after it noticed that all students selected to Nkhatabay Secondary School this year are ‘not from the North.’

“School in the North with only students selected from South & Central regions#notoquotasystem #Malawi #Equality4All ,” reads  the tweet t by@csplivingstonia; an unverified account but whose other content suggests it is indeed from the Church and Society Program, a developmental branch of the Synod.

Malawi Breaking News tweeted earlier that out of the 53 students selected to the school, which is a government school, none is from the north.

It is doubtful if the church will cite any law that has been infringed by the government in selecting students to a national school, but it is likely to ruffle feathers among the people of Nkhatabay.

It will also be used as fuel in the current debate where some quarters from the northern region are calling for secession from the rest of the country citing unequal distribution of resources among other complaints.

Ironically, presidential advisor Symon Vuwa Kaunda who comes from Nkhatabay has been campaigning against federalism ruffling feathers of the north people, calling him “traitor.”

In 2007 Or there about all senior staff members at ARET were northerners check it. Is aret i At one time at chanco 3/4 of all students were from the north why? Theycould assemble all the wakwithu children at a certain house and give them the axact unima entrance exams before hand. If a northerner is heading a department, a company, NGO expect that all senior positions will be filled by them. Nobody raises the alarm for this despite well qualified people from other regions. IF THIS IS NOT TRUE HEAR THISOOO and prove me wrong, Blantyre South West Education Division is now headed by a norherner look at who is heading what in the division now all northerners from the top to he headteacher. This country is generating into a very dangerous path but Peter Mutharika continues dosing on his seat, exactly like what he was doing when he was minister of Education during the academic freedom saga, dosing for 8 months till he was rescued. Are you saying the selection of the pupils to NkhataBay Secondary School which is a National Secondary School was made by Democratic Progressive Party? There are institutions responsible for that why not ask those responsible what happened. Please, lets not mix up issues as if we are ignorant of facts. Even without DPP or any other preferred party by some quarters, the selection could have been there. Please, learn to be sincere with issues, don’t jump to conclusions before analyzing the situation. Even an illiterate person can reason better than those who link everything to politics. Some have rightly commented that a National Secondary School is not for a particular district but the whole Malawi. Actually, by saying that students from the north should have been on the list, assuming no one is there, then you are advocating for a quota system. The fact of the matter is that there is no particular tribe or region that is more intelligent than the other. I personally went to a National Secondary School where pupils from all the regions were in attendance. Some made it to University and others did not. It reflected the performance in class. Those who did not make it to university were from all the three regions and the opposite is true. So where is this mentality that a certain region has genius people as compared to others? What is important to know is that people are aware of how others were aided to go to secondary or university in the old days. Let people compete on fair level and those that excel be supported to build Malawi. We are fed up with nepotistic thinking, and those who believe in nepotism are the ones talking about it. Some of us it is not even in our language, we have learned it from people of other region (s).

Thats not a bad thing reverend nyondo. what you should be pushing for is the selection of children from the north to say Ntchisi secondary school, That way, you will eliminate the belief by others that people like you want schools from the north to be full of northern region children so that muwaonetse mayeso so that they can appear to be intelligent. Let the government mix these kids up. Kids from the north should be sent to the south or central, and the kids from the central to the south and north and those from the south be sent to the central and north.

    A school based in the north is not for northerners, just like a school in the south isnt for southerners and those from the central isnt for central region people. The same applies to the Universities. Some people think Mzuzu University is for the north, or the upcoming Mombera University, thats wrong! Even MUST in Ndata is not for lhomwe or southerners.

    Men of collar ( i wish i could call them men of God koma eish!) should fight for justice without being divisive, regionalistic or tribalistic) No tribe in malawi owns a region or district in this country.

    2. NkhataBay secondary school is a National secondary school just as Blantyre secondary school
    3. When selecting students we don’t look at the district one is coming from but just the numbers
    4. The last time the government used district as a factor to consider when selecting students was during Kamuzu era before democracy. This was changed when muluzi took over
    5. You will also appreciate the fact that the situation is the same in other National secondary schools
    6. This is not the first time for such a thing to happen and no noise was made
    When people have nothing to do in their offices they search for petty issues and blow them out of proportion just to make the public notice their presence. Don’t divide the country please with your regionalistic aguements.

    1. When will these people realise that we are all Malawians irrespective of where we come from. The fact that you come from some village that by some chance is geographically located in the North does not make you more human or more deserving than someone who hails from the South or Central. Welcome to the 21st century, come out of the bush. We are all humans.

      I went to primary school in the South, most of my teachers from std 2 to 5 were from the North, their children were in the same class. My friends in secondary school were from the North, yet I was in the South. The classes were usually 2/3 northerners. It never bothered me because I understood that they too were Malawians and most of them were born and raised in the South.

      Now you want to make a story because an isolated ‘national secondary school’ ( a national secondary school for God’s sake) has no or fewer Northerners? By the way who is a northerner? My wife has lived almost all her life in the South, just visiting the North on very few isolated times. She hardly speaks the language. Is my son a northerner? Grow up you brutes, we are all Malawians, all deserving to benefit from the small meagre resources

The PLSCE selection for Nkhatabay secondary is just one example which demonstrates how wicked the DPP government is against the people from Northern region.

Cant you see that despite denying Tumbukas places in their own districts there are still more Tumbukas selected to other districts. Please check and you will agree with me. Some Tumbukas have also changed names to Phiri, Banda etc. You cant always win. Just leave it. Moreover Tumbukas are also sending their kids to private schools. Therefore your unfair quota system will flop naturally. Whatever its motive is.

  89. Maybe the students were not selected from schools from the North; but their origins of some of the students may be in the North. I know of a couple of the students who actually identify themselves as coming from the North, because their fathers are from there.

The way things are happening with Peter Munthalika , he has brought Malawi into a lot of nepotism because of the linked information which he accused Hon Speaker Henry Chimunthu Banda not being the presidential material of Malawi because he is a Tonga from the Northern Region . To make it worse all the top government positions are being given to people of his tribe or region , this linked information which all Malawians have will bring a lot of problems for Malawians to accept Peter as a national leader.

  99. Thuis is not new in malawi. At one academic year at KCN there were 22 students and only two were from the south and none from the centre and therest were from the north. Go and check with KCN. And at Malawi college of Health sciences, it was the same and people did not talk about it. Now its the reverse, people are talking. Kudzikonda eti?

      If the college intake was 22 and the 2 came from the South, then at 53 at least 5 were supposed to come from any district from the North or be it at least from Nkhata Bay. This would have been at least a face saver though already bruised. This is embarassing the country!

      You are holding a big position now, so if we start mentioning your names here, you will be embarassed big time and your clients will not respect you any more—that will be the end of your career.

      How can ordinary poerson access those records, he should have been either a………….at one time a KCN&/MCHS. WE ARE WATCHING YOU……………..

    3. KCN is not a secondary school. compare like with like. To go to KCN you pass two exams, MSCE and entry. So you wanted Mbizi to go there?

      KCN is medicine, you need bright people, you can not treat a patient wrongly and expect to correct the mistake, there are no second chances in medicine.

      The people that select know that, so they pick the best. In that year the best came from the North.

      You should also realise it is cheaper for us parents if our children went to a nearer school, why should you subject a 14 year old to a journey from Nsanje to Nkhatabay?
