Analyst trashes Peter Mutharika on Malawi President’s recall from US: ‘No crisis’
A political analyst at the University of Malawi, Mustapha Hussein, has said the call by opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika for Malawi President Joyce Banda to cut short her official visit to the United States to come home and deal with pertinent domestic issuess following the shooting of Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo.
Mutharika said Banda should return to “provide leadership” in dealing with what he called “corruption crisis “ in the country.
But Hussein a lecture at Chancellor College said on Tuesday that Mutharika should bot blow the issue out of proportion.
“There is no crisis in Malawi to warrant President Joyce Banda to cut short her trip,” said Hussein.
“We have a problem but we can’t classify it as a crisis,” the political analyst said.
He pointed out that the state machinery has already rolled out its investigations onthe Mphwiyo shooting incident which has since the spate of arrests on suspects.
President Banda has since asked Malawians to give opportunity for the process of criminal investigations regarding the shooting to be completed.
