Another DPP top official Zimba quits to join MCP
Deputy National Director of Field Operations for the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Lonzoe Zimba has defected to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
He was officially welcomed by MCP’s District Chairman for Mchinji South, Mapitilo Chibisa on Saturday.
Speaking on behalf of other former DPP members who have defected along with him to MCP, Zimba said the current government’s Tonse Alliance’s philosophy needs collective support for Malawi to transform from poverty to prosperity.
“I have decided to take up another challenge, hence tendering my resignation. I was like a prodigal son, now I have returned to my original party. I am ready to render my full support to the current government,” he said.
Zimba said he has since written the former ruling DPP about his resignation from the party.
Meanwhile, MCP’s District Chairman for Mchinji South, Mapitilo Chibisa has said the joining of Lonzoe Zimba and other DPP members speaks volume of the trust they have in MCP leadership.
“This development explains a lot because when people are joining the party, it means the party is gaining weight on the ground, so we are happy to see Lonzoe Zimba and other former DPP members joining MCP today,” he said.

This is childish behaviour. A genuine politician should be loyal to his/her party and its philosophy and ideals. How can someone be considered a serious politician when they simply abandon their party when it loses an election? Tonse Alliance doesn’t need such fair weather friends who are prepared to abandon their party just because it has lost power.

Joining of Lozo Zimba has irked die hard members of MCP and all people of Mchinji East. Lozo has joined MCP to save the Mduwa chieftainship which DPP handed over to his relative who is not titled to it because everyone knew that once MCP takes over Government ufumu wa Mduwa udzapita kwa eni a Sakweleka. Lozo had few had Sakweleka arrested by DPP Police to silence him. MCP leaders in Mchinji should have screened Lozo before admitting. Lozo is also a loan shark who has grabbed land other property from poor people in Mduwa area. Allowing people like Lozo who not long ago terrorised people in MC East is an insult to people of Mduwa. A group of traditional leaders and MCP members will soon write MCP National Headquarter to withhold Lozo’s membership to the party or risk

These ‘defectors’ are no good to MCP, and it would have been wise not to welcome them into the current ruling party, but rather let them stay in DPP.
The truth of the matter is that these sort of people have a tendency of jumping from one ruling party to another.

I have said before when the DPP’s Regional Governor for the Eastern Region defected to UTM and I’m gonna say it again this is not what Malawians voted for if members of the former ruling party are allowed to join the current ruling alliance left, right and centre. Where is change in that? I would caution the Tonse Alliance against accepting these members in their fold. It will mean that we have not changed anything; In any event why did these members not defect long before if they believed that the Tonse Alliance vision and Philosophy is the way to go. Malawians are now active citizenry and if the Alliance is not careful their mandate will only be for a single term. We want real change and real change cannot happen with the members of the former governing party joining the ruling Alliance especially after they have perpetrated an economic genocide of staggering proportion.
Politicians like Patricia Kaliati who are still going out to conduct political rallies must be disciplined. In the The President must order them to stop it immediately because they are putting the lives of ordinary people at risk. What happened in Mulanje over the weekend was very disgusting when Kaliati was well protected with a shield and a mask while ordinary people had nothing but busy dancing for her in the Winter rain. Time for campaign is over and people now want Ministers to work to improve their wellbeing.If her boss, the VP canceled his meeting with CEOs in the North, why can’t Kaliati do the same. We want our Ministers to adopt a new norm of doing business as opposed to wasting time in political rallies. She has lots of files in the office which she must read and chart the best way to do government business.We don’t want to have a repeat of DPP style of doing business. The President must know that this is the outcome of recyling Ministers who have been in the rotten Governments in the past- there is nothing new they will bring to the new Government.
